| I'd use that term for trolling with no downriggers, dipsey-divers, or planer boards. Throw a bait out and put it in the rodholder. Some guys will say they are flat line trolling with planer boards too.

Location: Hayward, WI | I'm not an expert on this but I would have the same definition as IAJustin has. Simply tossing the bait out straight behind the boat is flatline trolling, and adding anything else to change the angle or depth isn't... in my mind at least.

| flatline is trolling baits back behind the boat without boards. we postion rods.
10fters 4 ounces 40ft back
down rod 1lb ball 15 back.
boards according usually 40back in the clip. |

| We consider FLATLINE TROLLING to be using no downrigger attached to it. Back behing the boat or with boards out to the side is considered flatlining it to us. |

To each their own... but technically flatline trolling should be when your boat partner peees you off enough that you finally have to kill him... but then you decide to just prop him up in a boat seat (only for a few hours). What the heck... technically his fishing license is still valid so it's not like your breaking the law running an extra line, and he sure is a lot easier to get along with now. Why waste an otherwise pleasant day on the water when you can do some real flatline trolling... weekend at Bernie's style.
