| I caught this muskie in green bay this spring while walleye fishing. It was 51.5 inches long pre-spawn. It is my first and ONLY muskie so far. We didn't have time to weigh it since we wanted to get it in the water ASAP, any guesses on how much it could have weighed???
ps, caught on ultra light rod and 8 pound test

A quick estimate on what she may have weighed is this:
Take the girth (or what you think it is) and subtract that by .75 so if you think the fish was 22" around you have 21.25 inches. Then multiply that times itself. 21.25 X 21.25 = 451.5625. Then multiply that by the length. 51.5 X 451.5625 = 23,255,46875. Then divide that by 800. It comes up to 29.06 pounds so add a pound as this formula weighs in on the lighter side. If you think the girth was bigger then do the math.
No way of telling but you caught the fish so maybe you can get a closer estimate.

| I think 32-34# would be a good guess. I have seen many form the bay in the fall that weigh over 30# at only 48". Nice Clean fish and great job with the light tackle !!! |

Location: WI | Very nice fish. If you become "one of us", you'll soon realize that we really don't get too excited by weight. Unless you keep a world record fish, and I wouldn't wish that nightmare on my worst enemy. When talking musky size, we're mostly interested in it's length, and that will be debated unless you include a picture on a bumpboard. Congrats on catching such a big musky on walleye tackle. |

Location: 31 | Great story and nice release, thanks for sharing! I would call that a pretty solid 30 pound fish if it was in my boat. Anyone with two eyes can see this fish was as claimed, so there won't be any debate on the length. Most of these debates are with fish like the claimed Green Bay 64”. In my opinion rightfully so… and there's not much of a debate there either!
Regarding the comment above; “not wishing the world record nightmare on my worst enemy”. I think there is no logical basis for that comment. I didn't see any skepticism with Joe Seeberger’s modern-day world record. However, maybe you are referring to Spray, Johnson, Lawton, ect? If so, they were “their own worst enemy” for blatantly lying about the size of their fish.
