Ok,...... So I've been thinking......Again,....Serisously,.....

The "muskies per acre" thread, got me thinking about ::::::: How many times in a season are the "Same" fish caught ???

I'm thinking that the smaller fish( Under 45") may get boated a little bit more than,...say the 52-55" fish.
Not scientific ,but just an observation perhaps.

What do you think?

Very good question. In my opinion, especially, in the the smaller lakes in WI, the "average" musky gets caught several times a year. Years ago, I know of a small deformed hybrid which was caught at least 4 times in 10 days. With sucker fishing, I know of fish which were caught twice in the same day. I have caught the same fish twice in a year from a 1000 acre lake, and I don't think I am the only angler to catch the fish. Also have caught several twice in a month from smaller lakes.
I read an article a few years ago about Pewaukee Lake. At the time the DNR estimated the musky population at about 1700. And the estimated the annual catch rate was about 5100. Do the math. I feel all fish aren't caught, but many are caught mutiple times.
If the survival rate is 90%, that means a fish lives 9 out of 10 times after being released. If a fish is caught 3 or more times a year, and it takes ~17 years for a muskies to reach 50", no wonder true 50"ers are so rare in WI.

i think of this also.it would be neat to tag muskies you catch and log them in on the web. catch a fish with a tag you could look it up find out who taged it where and when and how big it was.catch a fish with out a tag put a tag in it and log it in.say charge 20 bucks per tag to help run the web site i would go for somthing like that.

The Michigan Muskie Alliance in conjuction with the MIDNR did this over a 2 yr period on a 400 acre lake.
