Hey All,

I will be taking my boat to the Gulf Coast near Bradenton, FL for some shark fishing in a few weeks. To my knowledge, it has never seen salt water and my engine is the freshwater version Mercury 200 EFI. Are there any precautions or concerns I should be aware of before, during, or after my trip. I do plan to flush the motor thoughly with a muff and fresh water after use. Is there anything else I should consider?

I have family in Florida as well as Virginia that fish saltwater and from what I remember they would do a freshwater washdown.But then again they use galv. trailers and everything in the boat was stainless. I would be careful if you have carpet in the boat or any other place that would hold water for any length of time.Best to take all gear out you dont need while in saltwater...unless it's stainless.

You need to rinse everything and flush your motor with fresh water.
