Just ordered from universal mania and I am pumped!! My old locater is ancient so this is a HUGE upgrade. It is not the HD unit, but a great price.

Any thoughts on must have extras?? I know I need the WI chip, but beyond that, I am unsure! Sure am open to any ideas if you wouldn't mind!

Thanks

if price isn't an option you could pick up a new terrova with ipilot link. while you're at you could add 360 imaging. the weather module is good for tracking barometric pressure.

High speed transducer! The side imaging sonar will not show when you get to 5-6mph. Once you get that, get a y cable to run both side imaging and high speed transducers at the same time.

Can anyone tell me at what speed the standard transducer stops working? My Ranger tops out at about 35MPH or so. Will it read up to that?

Doug Vahrenberg that has a lot of Humminbird youtube videos has a screen shot of him going over 70mph and still have a sonar reading. You just have to switch to the 200 kHz to keep the reading....At least that what he says.

It will take some playing but you should be able to get the si ducer to read at 35 mph. Remember the solution to getting it to read better is often moving the ducer up not down. Down ususally creates more turbulance. Also no need to switch to 200 khz, hbirds always ping the depth with 200 no matter what you have the unit set to.

Thanks Plunker, I am sure it will take some adjusting to get her dialed in. From some posts I was worried that it only worked at very slow speeds.

Worst case senario is that you epoxy an in hull duceer in the bottom of your boat and use a y splitter cable to your head unit. But that is worst case like I said you should be able to get it to read 2d at 35with a bit of adjusting.

Glad to hear everything is working out for you Clammer. If you need a through hull transducer...let me know as I have an extra (would sell at a decent price) that came with the units I bought. I didn't go the new route since I found a great deal on an 1198 and 957 with extras for $2200.

That would.nt be too bad, if needed. Hope I can get away without though. Spent more than I wanted, but think it will be worth it!

Wow, sounds like you have a great setup, and a fine price as well. I was watching for something used to come up, and was actually only thinking of the 7-800 series. Saw the price on the closeout and after everyone commenting on the nicer big screens, figured I'd give it a go.
Thanks for the kind offer on the transducer. I will ley you know how it goes. Will be a bit before I am on the water. Will have to wait for the guys in their little huts to get out of the way!
