I recently picked up a Legend Tournament Big Nasty, my first 9 footer. I had been contemplating going the TB predator route, but the price on the Big Nasty was too good to pass up. I did the usual flexing and balancing in the store before I bought it, but I didn’t put a reel on it. I had the opportunity to fish with it on Sunday and I love it/hate it! The rod throws baits a mile and does everything I would expect, but the trigger on the reel seat is crippling me. I throw lefty so the reel never leaves my hand. I had a 400 TE on the rod and when I palm the reel. The trigger fits between my ring finger and my pinky finger. I have been casting this way for the last 20 years and have never had an issue other than getting a “claw” and some numbness during week long LOTW trips. However, the trigger on the Big Nasty reel seat is angled toward the butt of the rod and is crushing my little finger where it meets my hand. It’s Wednesday and it is still painful and bruised. Anyone else have this problem? How do you hold the rod-n-reel combo when palming? Any fixes/modifications for this issue?

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | This may seem like I'm stating the obvious here but if you move your pinky in front of that trigger you'll solve the problem and enjoy the comfort that reel seat provides. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Hold the reel forward of the grip, palming it completely. It took me a trip to get used to it and quit trying to grab the grip with a finger or two.

This may seem like I'm stating the obvious here but if you move your pinky in front of that trigger you'll solve the problem and enjoy the comfort that reel seat provides.
Tried that, but felt like I didn't have any control, especially wit cold hands. Thought I was going to chuck rod/reel/lure into the lake. |

| I have the same rod and felt that way about it at first but then kind of got used to it. Now it is one of my favorite rods. I do have predators and like them too. Give it a little more time and you might get used to it. |

| keep doing it until you get used to it. that reel seat is awesome. I have one rod with the new seat, and I wish the rest had it. way more comfortable in the long run for me. |

Are you gripping completely in front of the trigger? |

| It"s your rod, if you like everything else about it why not make it comfortable and painless and simply grind off the major part of the trigger and then with a fine file neatly remove the rest of the trigger entirely. No more trigger No More Pain. Mike Sr. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The picture I posted clearly shows holding the rod entirely in front of the trigger. That's the correct way to hold the rod, and it's very comfortable to use. I boated a few with it this Fall, and liked it just fine. |

if you try to split two fingers with that seat it is definitely going to be uncomfortable

Location: Oconomowoc, WI | I also don't see this as an improvement. I'm sure that you can get used to it as many people have said. But I don't ever remember it being a problem. Seems like maybe it should be an option, similar to the split grip. Still one of the best all around blanks around, but a top of the line rod shouldn't take getting used to in my opinion. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | It's actually far more comfortable. The 'getting used to' is because it's a new grip, not because it's inferior. And, one needs to know the correct way to palm the reel using this new grip....right?

Location: St.John, Indiana | When I first starting throwing this rod I though it was awkward also , but after a few outings it feels extremely comfortable and natural. I have it paired with a Tranx and I can completely wrap my hand around the reel and rod without stressing my fingers on the trigger. I understand that you should not have to get used to a rod , but it's only because we get accustom of holding it a certain way. No different than trying to hold the foregrip while reeling when you normally palm the reel. |

| felt the same way as everyone here...awkward at first but now that rod is my absolute favorite one to use. split grip paired with revo 61 |

| Maybe I need bigger mitts? While I didn't have a chance to actually throw baits yesterday, I did swap the 400TE for a Curado 300 and found gripping in front of the trigger far more comfortable than with the 400 TE. But I wanted to pair this rod w/ the 400TE and use it for Dbl-10's and 13's, so I guess I'll have to make more of an attempt to get used to gripping in front of the trigger. If I can't get used to it, I may have to look into other options, like filing the trigger down, padding it, or perhaps filling in the acute angle with JB Weld to make a split finger grip mor comfortable. All kinda chintzy looking..... |

| keep using it man it will get much better, ive used with with a curado, 401 te, and revo 61 it felt great with all of them |
