Fireside Lodge on little Vermilion Lake Sioux lookout, Ontario, Need your opinion is it really worth the price ? seems to be a little pricey, my wife and I are planning a trip up there next year, $3060 for the both of us + I have gas up and overnight hotels, since we will be driving from Xenia, Ohio I will have 4k invested in a one week trip, I would like to have your honest opinions of Fireside lodge is it worth the money ?

Nope, for $4k I would go else where. The network of lakes are decent, but if you are looking for bigger fish, I would go else where. Fished the network several times, camped at the park... Low 40's was the biggest Muskie we ever boated. No walleyes in the system. Smallmouth were by far the biggest highlight of the trips.

Everything I have read say's it’s a numbers factory, with the muskies on the small size, 4k is a lot of money just for the two of us. I heard the smallmouth fishing is awsome?

If you're looking for a place with TONS of chances at fish and really nice people with great accomidations with really good food, Fireside is your place. If you're looking for a trophy fish, go elsewhere. They're in the system I'm sure as when i was there we saw fish in the mid to upper 40s range, but caught more in the 30-38" range. However, me and a friend boated 16 in 4 days, and saw probably 200. But this was maybe 12 years ago.

Slamr, was that right after they opened the sanctuaries up to fishing? Muskie and Hooch lake? If so, it was true... you could go into those lakes and catch fish almost at will for the first year or two. We went back about 5-6 years after that and had tough time connecting hooks to fish. Lots of follows, I imagine they learned their lessons pretty quick! But again, most fish caught were mid-30's - low 40's. But we too saw a few bigger fish. Numbers over size waters.

In regard to smallies, yes, the smallie fishing was great on those lakes. But we also fished several other lakes in that area and the smallie fishing was great on all them. So, don't think that is the only option.

If you don't need/want top of the line accomodations, I would look elsewhere than fireside for a better deal. If that is what you are looking for, then fireside will work and take good care of you. You just need to decide what you are looking for.

Good action---Lots of up to 38" like said before---But my buddy recently got a 47 out of there--nice fat fish. So like has been said---4K lots of $$$---I would pick a trophy place if it were me or you----But wife ?? Is she fishing hard or just enjoying the outing with a little fishing--thats what my wife likes.

Its a fun fishery unless he has a full camp and the other two lodges in the area are out there on the lake. Two years ago I had 15 boats follow me into the sanctuary and that was the last time I went there. For that kind of $ go to Lake of the Woods, get a guide and enjoy your fishing time. Big fish, variety and lots of water to explore. Check out the Crow Rock area near Kenora.

wow that's some madness rates

Absolutely not worth it in my opinion, especially considering it is not on trophy water

There are many other resorts with just as good of an experience for less then half of that rate for the two of you, dont waste your money

Never been to the lodge but fished the system a few times, including the sanctuary lakes. Largest muskies will be in Little V, have seen some upper 40s, biggest I've got is a 45". Pike are good sized, you will catch a good number over 8lbs. The sanctuary lakes take a little bit to get into, its a winding little crick and you wanna watch your intake, its silty and could clog you up. I'm not sure much over 40" lives in them. Bass is good in all. I've always camped at the Provincial Park. If you can handle tenting you'd see the system and cut cost remarkably.

4 grand? Nonsense. At that price I'd wait a year and go to Taltson Bay Big Pike Lodge.

Someone boated 16 in 4 days. That isn't worth 2 grand, for a "numbers" lake.

The last couple times i've visited canada (LOTW) we stayed at redwing lodge in morson it was $1500 for EVERYTHING. hell when we got there my buddy nailed a 40" off the dock on his second cast and we just got there the boat was on the trailer and suitcases in the truck. But thats just my 2 cents. wherever you choose good luck and safe travels.

Art and Jenny are great host and alot of fun. Chance at a big fish, and the most incredible smallie fishing in NW Ontario. Plus, its only right across the border.

I thought this sounded familiar. Confused why you'd pay the money and bring it up again. It seems you were already told and now you're trying to back out???

For that price do they bait the hook for you?

Stay across the road at Timber Edge Camps on Minnitaki. Cheaper, and you can trailer the couple miles to little vermilion when you want, go fish walleyes in minnitaki to change it up, and have a great time.
Been going there for the last 10 summers.

Like one of the previous posts said, the couple that own and run Fireside are great people, you will catch a variety of fish...but again not big in size. But the costs for staying at Fireside for 1 week were getting to be ridiculous. So I tried a new lodge...Shoal Lake Lodge. The smallmouth were the biggest I ever caught. The cost for 1 week for 1 person was $1200 for the American Plan (3 meals a day). Now compare that to the previous year at Fireside. I paid $2150 for 1 person for 1 week to stay at Fireside.

I know there's largemouth & northerns along w/smallies. But it's really known as the #1 lake for smallmouth and I think they're right about that. Plus Shoal Lake is huge and this lodge is the only resort on the entire lake. I've already made reservations for next year. Here's their website:
