This last week my 917 was locking up, such that connector box needed to be removed to reset the unit. The power button would not kill the power. It only seemed to do this when moving spots with the outboard. Was not every time. Never have had issue with this since I have owned the unit. Anyone have this happen or offfer any explination or fix? The 957 at the tiller had no issues. I might add that I was running the Humminbird specific Lakemaster chips which are very slow to update the map, not sure if this would have anything to do with this either as the identical chip was in the 957.

just a hunch, but possibly your main battery may be low on volts. i would check that out. sounds weird but my lowrances did the same thing when my starter battery was going bad.. and if you run a opti like i do it takes a 1000 cca battery for that motor and thats alot of draw on the battery and all your electronics...bill

Display option on the units vary from 12.4V on rear tiller position 957 to 11.4V on the 917 at bow. These are powered from the same battery, so I switched locations and the voltage stayed the same at each location reguardless of unit powered up there. I will keep an eye on the volts display going forward.

I had the same problem and the marina who installed the unit traced it down to a loose fuse,so check to make sure your fuses are pushed all the way in.

It would only lock up when the boat would be under power and hitting waves. Sometimes it would lock up and stay on, requiring an unplug/replug to get going, and sometimes would just shut off. It's noteworthy that it never shut off when the boat was being started, which is when I've seen voltage issues manifested..
