What size do you guys use for this style of fishing? Any preferred brand?

Thx in advance.

Kind regards Ole

This is an easy one. I use 200 lb. Stealth Leaders for all big rubber lure duties. I don't know if you will find a better leader ( you may find ones that are comparable, but not better)

Thanks but I wanted to know how you connect your mainline to your leader? Do you use a swivel? If yes, what size and brand do you use?

I tie direct to my line with a uni knot, or use a solid welded ring. No swivel for me.

Ole,
If you want the best you have to pay big bucks. Most BB swivels will work fine for muskie leaders. You definelty want a larger welded ring on the swivel. If you go with a #175 lb rateds swivel you should be fine.
I have found swivels at the Big "C" and also Thorne Bros. - They may be Berlkley's but the real expensive ones are Sampo's. If you save your swivels from worn out leaders they seem to never wear out. Change your #9 Staylocks when they get soft or shiny.
I used to make all my own leaders for over 15 years and I just recently tried the Stealth leaders and I am very impressed #150 flouro Stealth from here on out for me.
For the heavy rubber baits I would use the #180 stealth leaders. I will wait for the expo season this year to purchas some of the #180's

Good Luck

Steve

If you are looking for just swivels, John Bette from Stealth Tackle sells his brand of super high quality swivels. I have never had one fail and use them year round ripping pounders from spring till ice up. You can't beat Stealth Tackle leaders...if you are thinking about making your own, I would suggest trying out Stealth's 150 lb flouro leaders first...they simply can't be beat.

May I ask what the need is for the swivel?
