Posts: 34 | I have used my good graphite rods for sucker fishing and I am now concerned about breaking one if it gets extremely cold. Can you recommend a glass rod, line counter reel and line for sucker fishing. I don't want to have a calcutta just sitting sitting on a sucker rod since I am not casting it and I do realize a glass rod has more play in it but I am sure someone has a sweet sucker set up they like. Thanks Rip

the Black River rod works great, plenty of power and a forgiving tip. http://blackriverrods.com/ i like the Daiwa LC27 reels: linecounter for precise depth, loud bait clicker for the zippppp, and a solid lock-down drag. spool it up with 100lb Cortland Masterbraid and have fun!

Well, when it's properly attended to anyway! That little spinney thing under the handle...go clockwise w/ it prior to deploying the sausages... Good times. S.

Posts: 752 | I use a custom Thorne Brothers 9 Ft Glass Trolling Rod. The blank is designed by Lonnie @ Thorne's and I am am not sure who they have manufacturer it. As far as customs goes its cheap; mine was under $250.00 and I upped the front grip to a full wells and upgraded from the stock guides. Attached to it I have a 500 Tekota Shimano Line Counter. Its my go to trolling rod and it doulbes perfectly as a sucker rod. The combo works great. I have used it to haul sturgeon upwards of 60 inches in the past and it trolls 14 Inch Jakes or bigger just fine...

Posts: 172 | I used black river live/troll rod for first time last weekend. I LOVE IT!!! Great backbone and I don't worry about rod breaking after hard hookset. Kept fish pinned pretty good. A awesome rod for awesome reasonable price.
