I say ERC needs to educate the masses, and perhaps give the new bait a Latin name, and add a jingle such as "Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, tie one on the end of your stick!" Do whatever you want...:O

Posts: 5874 | How about naming it the "RIP LURE". I can hear it now. "Rip-itty do da, Rip-ity aye. My, oh my, what a Rip Lure day. Plenty of Muskies, Tigers, and spots......." "Big fish, Pete! Got 'im on the Rippo, the Ripster, Rippy, Rip-Rip Ripperooni! Oh, man, I just fell, and got Rip Lure hook in the a$$!"

Posts: 1141 Location: NorthCentral WI | Searching the forums I came across this thread... What's the story with the "Rip and Glide"? I take it this was the original Hellhound, before they moved the line tie to the center? Interested in what kind of action it got with that top eye. (Edit: Apparently that's the "Ripper" line tie). Very interesting. Anyone care to elaborate? Edited by MartinTD 9/28/2012 2:15 PM

This is what happens when bait designs don't pan out. The Musky Mania "dying fish" was supposed to be a glider originally. Anyone remember that? The hellhound actually turned out to be a decent result of the rip & glide effort.

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Martin as stated earlier the "ripper" line tie position was vibrating dive and rise lure similar to a TR Twitcher. Only problem with it was if you tried to overwork it you would hang it up on the leader. That was easily overcome by just doing nice easy pulls. The bottom line tie position made for a WTD topwater bait, but this one with flat sides which added a unique sound.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Interesting flashback. I had a couple of the prototypes, and was asked to fish them on my rivers. While I caught a few muskies on them with the top line tie, when hit by significant current, the lure would roll up and hang up on the next pull. The bottom tie was realized to be too low, and after the difference was split and a bit of weight added, the hellhound was created. I enjoyed working with the lure, and it was fun seeing the end result. Edited by Reef Hawg 9/29/2012 7:20 PM

Wow flashback is right. That was weird seeing that name again. The R&G was first bait we made at ERC before the TripleD. The biggest reason the Rip-n-glide was scrapped was no consistency in production. The injection pressures were blowing the weights out of location. The idea was scrapped and fins were added and the Hellhound was born. I still have a hand full of the originals that work awesome though. Edited by MRichardson 10/1/2012 12:22 PM
