Somehow I got the idea that Gliders were more of a "spring" bait. Is it a viable bait for this time of year?

right on. especially big gliders that can be worked slow with a slower sink or rise rate.

I bougt a couple of Eddie baits used, never used them before. they seem to have a steel leader attached to them. Do I have to have those leaders on the baits?

They will run the best with a solid wire leader. Not to say that some will not run well with flexible leader material, but Eddies like many other wood gliders have unique personalities... meaning 5 of the same baits may run slightly different for various reasons. Does not need to be the leader that comes on the bait, easier to store them without the attached leader.
