Hey i was just wondering if anyone had any tips for fishing for muskies in the current of a lake such as an opening to a sleugh or in a channel or by a dam. It seems like the lakes I fish at, every area that has a consistent current will hold fish at some point. I was just wondering what good lures for that would be or like best times of day or seasons. Everyone give their 2 cents on this subject:P

I'll add that If I am to mistaken I have read that muskies are originally river fish. Maybe that is why they are drawn to currents so much.

My home water is a small flowage in Wisconsin. I'll attest to the current thing. After a good rain, it seems like the muskies love to run up the feeder creeks. I think it is a double-whammy, cooler water and the current. I haven't found any one special lure or lures that seem to do better. If they are going to eat, they'll eat anything you put in front of them!

i like to throw body baits ripped aggressively in wind-blown areas ... fish with the boat upwind and pick ambush spots apart with grandmas, raiders or shallow invaders. fish like to eat when given this approach.

I might add, in Tom Gelb's new book, he does a chapter on current and so did Dick Pearson in his book! Also saw a seminar by Dick where he went into the seiche effect in large lakes after strong persistent winds.

Love fishing below dams. The stronger the current, the better. Topwater.
