Posts: 512 | Hey All, I have a TranX reel and I've noticed that it backlashes a LOT. I have all of the brake stops pressed down and the brake adjustment fairly tight. I was wondering if others on here have experienced this behavior? I will add that I also have used Shimano TEs and Conquests wherein I do NOT see any such behavior. Thanks

Posts: 61 | I have a PG paired with a Predator XH, and I also have backlash issues with unweighted DCGs. No issues with anything else, but man I cannot cast a DCG without cranking down the spool tension, but most of my DCGs are weighted now anyways. Mine is also filled to the max with 100 PP. Not sure if that may help or hurt it. Mine was also making some noise this weekend, added a few drops of lube and it was whisper quiet again.

Posts: 512 | The behavior that you describe is what I am seeing. However, I have had some backlashes with heavier baits too but, as you described, not nearly as many.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Tmag, if you've got the brake stops pressed down (inward) then you have all of them off. Pull a couple out past the first stop (try opposite sides) and see what that does for you. But I wouldn't tighten the cast control knob down so far, learn to use the thumb for your control at the end of the cast. Better for your spool alignment.

Posts: 512 | Thanks for the info guys. I actually do not have the control knob that tight. With bucktails, just enough so that there is slow drop with the bait. In answer to the line question, if memory serves, I have 80 lb. Samurai braid on this rod.

A spinning figure skater pulls their arms in to spin faster and extends their arms out to go slower. You want to position the plastic caps in the spool control out. Then you can adjust one or more from there as needed for more distance. Guest

All you have to do is read the reel manual it will tell you how to use and setup the spool braking system. On a $500.00 reel I would, on any reel READ the manual. I get reels in with all the spool brakes off and the owner has not a clue that they are off, so most will crank down on the cast control knob and that will dimple the fiber washers then the spool will be off center and the reel will sound like a coffee grinder and he is the first to post that reel X is junk LOL LOL LOL

Posts: 512 | I should've added more details to the story (LOL). I had actually lost one of the plastic brake stops when I was, indeed, moving it outward. I left the others as is until I received replacements. No, there were no replacements in the box as I had gotten it used. Anyway, after the backlashes, my knee-jerk reaction was to throw it up on here to see the response. No, the brake knob was not cranked all the way down. I also noticed that once the line was wet, the problem was significantly reduced which makes sense as it retains a certain amount of water adding drag. Probably should've had a different title on the thread; something to the effect of TranX reels perhaps being a bit more sensitive in some ways or something like that. I find mine to be very smooth yet very powerful just with some overruns on when the big blades catch a lot of air.
