Hello everyone. I'm just getting started into Muskie fishing and was hoping to get some advice when looking for my 1st Muskie rod. I don't know if it matters but I'll be doing must of my fishing from shore.

I would look into Tackle Industries for your first rod, not a ton of cash, but also not a junk rod by any means. I wouldn't go bigger than 7'6-8' on your first. You can most likely get away with a med-hvy, assuming you plan on throwing a lot of bucktails in the dbl#8-Mag#8 sizes.

If you want something cheap but durable, go with a Gander Mt. $40 rod OR do yourself a favor and just buy a St. Croix.

In the middle, x3 the TI. Fished them all and it's close to the st.croix.

I tried a Shimano Compre a year ago and got one (7'6" XH Fast) last fall. It has been quite nice, and wasn't too spendy. I would not under any circumstance waste money on a Cabela's Fish Eagle muskie rod. The one I have lacks the backbone to muscle small pike, but it is kinda fun if that's all you're catching.

I'm very happy with my Tackle Industries 9' MH rod. Upgraded from a Gander Mountain "Muskie" MH. Wow! What a difference!

get the st.croix there's some in the bargin room." tournament legend" LIFETIME WARRANTY and if you want to upgrage they will credit you money for your old rod or if its damaged so if it gets broken by getting stepped on guess what they will still credit you. GOOD LUCK

Bass pro shops brand rods are not bad and inexpensive. I'd skip the cabela's brand rods, though.

I have not one complaint about Mike Hulbert's rods.... They throw anything and everything with ease, a 9 foot blank as well. That's what I started out using, and have not used a different rod since... highly recommend..

Tackle Industries 9' xh telescopic is what I would buy. Long enough to figure 8, but short enough to store easily.
