Just wondering what your personal Braided line choice would be in the 80 lb. line category.... Power Pro, Tuff Line, Suffix, Cortland, etc. etc.
I have noticed lately that while using the Power Pro on some of my reels it seems to be very loud while reeling in, and it almost feels abrasive compared to several of the other lines I am using.. I have also noticed that it just does not cast as well,as the other lines, and is noisy when retrieved. I actually removed the line and while on the water re-spooled my reels with Tuff line and Spectron Black Spot and casted over and over just to see the difference, and they were both much quieter and nice and smooth.. I have used power pro for years and caught many fish on it, but I was just wondering if anyone else picked up on this....And then there is the Question of Visibility.....The color dark green is that not more visable to the fish than (white/black dot) or all white???????? I never realized that the majority of my fish were all caught on the white lines...Coincidence ??. I don't know..... Please let me know your feelings and opinions . Thanks Mike

I'm guessing but maybe the power pro was twisted? I mostly use sufix performance braid on my reels.

I never did care for PP line. It just didn't perform right. Was always a fan of Tuff Line XP due to teh suppleness. The only downfall was how much water it reatained. I am now a fan of the Suffix line as it is a lot like Tuff Line XP, but holds less water. I like the regular Suffix braid though over Suffix 832 as I have had some issues with 65# Suffix 832.

I like lines that are not "wirey", tend to fray, cast well, and are not loud as you mentioned PP is.

I use Suffix 832 and Power Pro Slick both are NEW lines with 8 weave design. Both are very quiet line on casting and both will out cast the older braids on the market today.

Pikemaster you haven't had any issues with the 832? Wondering if I got a bad spool of 65#. Mine will break like 50# on a cast, and I have noticed the white strand that is weaved in is broke in many spots giving the line a frayed look. There shouldn't be any strands breaking in that line.

I ran one rell with the 832 last year, but I think it was 80#. I didn't have any issues with it.

Sufix Performance Braid (not 832) is by far my favorite. The new stuff does not bleed all over the boat like the old stuff did.

I'm using 80lb power pro and masterbraid, and the masterbraid is noticeably smoother. Casting distance is about the same, but pp is louder on the way out. I've also had issues with color leaching from pp - first few times out I would get water with a slight green tint all over my reel and hand. With that said, power pro is still my preferred line.
Next season I'm going to drop down to 65lb pp and try a new brand too.

I'm a big fan of 80# Spider Wire Ultra Cast Invisibraid.

Before that I was using TUF and TUF XP. I just ordered another 1500 yd spool of Spiderwire UCI after using up the same amount over the past few years buying some new reels, respooling old reels and doing some for friends.

It has performed great for me both casting and trolling.

I use 65lb and 80lb 832 never had any problems like that. On the 832 it takes about a week to break in that line where as the Slick is great out of the box.
Ck your guides ????

Cortland masterbraid is by far my favorite. IMO it lasts 5-6x longer than power pro and is much more abrasion resistant and shock proof. Suffix performance is nice as well, only I like to go with 100lb+ because of it's thin diameter.

I too used to use PP. Its still on my reels cause I had to order Cortland masterbraid. I used this the other day and was pleased with everything it did. Less noise and less backlashes. I use PP 100lb but switched to Cortland 80lb. Good luck

Guides are fine as I took the 65# 832 off, and replaced it with the performance braid (regular stuff) and have had no issues since.

PP and cortland. Tried them all at one time or another. My least favorite is 832.. it bled and dug in like no line i have ever used before. it gets better after break in, but that took some time.

I had a spool of 80lb 832 i won at banquet last year so i threw it on a spool this season. Used it less then 10 times and broke it twice just ripping lures in. Once it broke 50 feet from the leader, 2nd time it broke a few feet above the leader. No my guides are absolutely not fraying the line.

Huge fan of sufix performance braid. I'm not a fan of the 832 or the master braid. The master braid line grows to yarn thickness in nov when the air temp is around freezing. The sufix doesn't grow a bit and barely holds water.

Power Pro is terrible. I cannot believe how many guys use it.

Regular TUFF line. Been using it for 15 years and it has never failed.

Had very good luck with Sufix 832 of all # tests. It is a bit stiff, but not as stiff as PP. I find it much more backlash friendly compared to PP. I have found it to be comparable to master braid in casting performance but again more backlash friendly. Maybe just need to improve my casting?! 832 is a real pain to cut without top notch scissors though. Haven't tried performance braid yet.

Looks like I'm a loner on this but I've been using Stren braid for years and really like it. I also suggest using the gold color and not the green. I don't believe the muskies can see the gold anymore than they can see the green but I can and I think it helps.

Not a loner on that one, I use Stren too, as does my brother, so there are at least three of us. Casts smooth, doesn't seem to get many backlashes, and they always come out, unlike PP which digs deep. I've used the spiderwire, it's not bad either, cortland is good, power pro, not my favorite. But Stren is definitely my line of choice.
