| I'm looking to purchase a pair of reels. One for traditional muskie fishing and one for harder pulling baits such as double 10 bucktails and big spinnerbaits. These are the only two reels I'm interested in. Both reels are about the same price. As far as longevity and durability twitching baits and pulling big blades, which reel do you think is better equipped to handle the stress for the long run? Which do you think is the better reel overall? Have you had experience with both? Issues?
Thank you very much for your reviews. |

| Get the Shimanos. It is all I will buy. Have used them for years with no problems. If you want to splurge, get a TE version. |

Location: 15 miles east of Lake Kinkaid | 2nd the Shimano Calcutta 400B. They are workhorses and can fish everything. They pull cowgirls fine especially if you get one with a powerhandle. I own 4 Calcutta 400Bs. |

Location: SE, WI. | I agree the Calcutta 400's are great reels, I own 4 or 5, But...IMO... They will not perform like a Penn 975 for dbl10's. The Penn 975 has a larger spool and seems to hold up better to the riggers of large double blades. The penn is a larger profile and may be a little large for most hands. But does have a nice power handle. |
