Any suggestions? I have always used Tuff Line might switch it up. Was curious if one brand was smaller in diameter. Thanks. H

Smaller diameter lines are usually weaker than larger diameter lines, regardless of what the label says. Whiplash is always much thinner for the published strength than tuff or power pro, but it is also much weaker.

Not sure why you want to get the smallest. When those small dia lines are more apt to get backlashes and send your lures flying into the abyss? I would prefer a thicker line that would have a tendency to not wrap under itself.

I can cast fine and use 65 on some reels, just looking for an 80 lb less diameter. Not worried about backlash, it is still going to be 80lb. I figured there would be differences between brands. Thanks.

Sunline has some thinner braid. To me it seems Spiderwire Stealth is fairly thin also.

Fireline braid is thinner than most and is also very smooth. Although, I thought it seemed to break down and start fraying sooner than others.

I have been using regular 50 lb Tuff Line for 15 years and never had any line failures. I do have the 80 lb on a few reels, but don't like it. Feels too thick. I know some guys think I am crazy using "only" 50 lb Tuff line, but it's just fine.

I've had plenty of 48+ inch fatties eat on the figure 8 on LOTW and never had a line failure.

And for those of you breaking your line on a back lash ... perhaps you shouldn't cast to dang hard!

Diameter is actually pretty hard to measure on braided lines. If you try to use a dial caliper it crushes the line and doesn't give a real accurate reading. To really get an accurate reading you would need to freeze it hard, like in liquid nitrogen, and then measure it.

Do you measure it with tension on or with no tension on? Just saying that being a braid it isn't like measuring a mono that's the same diameter regardless (within reason of course) braided lines are also not round. They say they are and some look pretty round but when we're talking about thousandths of an inch they aren't round.
