Posts: 32930 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Most fish caught in a 24 hour period by a single angler: Kolo will be live at 11 AM tomorrow trying to break his own world record while fishing against two other match fishermen for the 2012 title. We'll be there with live reports, a 24 hour live stream, and above and below the water action on camera. Sleepless in Minnetonka.... http://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/webcast

No sure of the fine requirements, but I gave this a quick skim. The article mentioned bass and bluegill, not sure if there any exclusions to fish species or size limits. He set the record last year (2,591) and is trying to beat it. http://www.odumagazine.com/fishingnews/2012/07/kolo-attempts-anothe...

Location: Illinois | I think he takes a 10 minute break every 6 hours or so to relieve his bladder, stretch the legs, eat, etc.

Posts: 32930 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | He does take breaks. Not long breaks though. he works very hard at this, and his hands look like he ran 'em through a tenderizer after 24 hours of this.

So Steve you were there, was there anything that you learned while watching this? Seems to me that anytime over 2000 fish are caught there must have been a "nugget" or two that could help an everyday fisherman. I guess from what I saw it appears that "chumming" might be something to consider while fishing for panfish.

Posts: 32930 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I learned it takes tremendous dedication for someone to stay up for 30 plus hours straight and catch that many fish in 24. Persistence pays off, as does hard work. Maggots are very effective bluegill bait. Barbless hooks and a perfectly rigged match rod in the hands of an accomplished Internationally known match angler makes for a good show. Challenger Mitch Petrie fished hard for 24 hours and ended up about 900 fish short of Kolo, landing 1500 in 24 hours...still pretty impressive. The docks at Maynards hold incredible numbers of fish. Kolo would have hit 2700 easily had he not had several muskies and pike causing issues. Fishing for Life does some pretty cool things for kids. I was tired when I got home. I bet Kolo was too.
