We just got back from our 5th year up on Vermilion, and are looking for a different lake to fish next year either in Northern WI or Northern MN. I have been looking a little at the Eagle River area. Any other suggestions? We've been to The Big Chip in Hayward, Lake Namekagon, Big Arbor Vitae, and Vermilion so far.

Thanks in advance. I'm a newbie on this site!

Muskie fishing mainly....But looking for a good, overall fishing experience since we like to cook up some shore-lunch as well. Golfing is nice along with possibly an area that has some bars....thought that's not needed.

I would check out Little Boy Lake in Longville MN. Good fishing all year around, Last year we had 2 boats up there for a weekend and we saw 27 fish. Could not get any to eat but enough excitement to keep fishing!!! Troy and Nancy at Little boy Resort have a beautifull place, I would recomend it to anyone. And if you want to Leech Lake is not to far for a day trip.

I would recommend big boy lake! The boy river goes right to leech and it only takes 20 minutes depending on how high the river is. It's not a great numbers lake but when you see them they're nice fish, also very nice walleye and humongous crappie avg. size for us is like 12 inches! The resort is awesome and the new owners are great! It's called timber trails

If you are used to big water like Vermillion, Little Boy will be way too small. Only about 1200 acres and gets a ton of pressure. I would suggest Bemidje, Cass, Leech (if you are looking for bigger water). Plantangenent and Big would be two other good ones that are smaller. What didn't you like about Vermillion? I personally think it is an awesome lake for muskies both numbers and big fish. Do not give up on it too soon! They are in there!!!

Ha. Ya we were up on Big Arbor Vitae a few years ago and spent some time in Minocqua. It was a pretty good time.

Just looking for options and trying to see what everyone recommends. Keep 'em coming guys appreciate it!

Vermilion is big, but we don't necessarily need to be on big water. We're looking for big, small, and anything in-between. A trophy lake would be nice, but would also like a lake with some numbers too so we can put some fish in the boat and get some action.

Nothing we didn't like about Vermilion...We loved the lake! This was our 5th year up there so we just wanted to check out a different area and different lake. Yes, it was a tough week last week when we were up there, but that didn't necessarily sway us on wanting to go somewhere else. Just looking for different scenery for now...We'll be back to the V later I'm sure.

Just got back from Wabedo and Little Boy, they got 12" of rain there too. Was there 8 days. Water color is like light colored coffee and very high. Could not go from lake to lake and in the channel and saw nothing. Love the area been going for 15 years.

i just got a message back from joe bucher and this is what he says about the Eagle River area:

I don't have great advice for you in terms of a switch to ER area lakes. They will not compare to Vermillion for quality. North Twin has the best pop and size, but is a night fishing lake in the summer. If you are up for that, then NT is a great choice.

tell me more about big boy and leech. you said leech doesn't have great numbers of musky, but how does big boy sit? i've heard leech is a great all-around fishing lake, which is good. lots of northern/bass/crappies?

I ment boy wasn't a great numbers lake. Leech has awesome walleye fishing along with Muskie. Big boy has a lot of northerns, good size bass, humongouse crappies and a good walleye fishery just not the greatest Muskie lake. It's about 3000 acres I think I'm not quite sure about that number though.
