I know that it is possible, but how many of you throw pounders on rods that are rated for say only 6oz? My rod handles 2-6oz and I can throw mags just fine, but would a pounder just be too stressful on the rod?

You could probably get away with it for a little bit but I would get a different rod.

I have a 3-8 and pounders are too much for it. Personally I like very little rod bend when trying to throw larger baits. My rod wasn't enough for a pounder so I got a heavier one.

I have casted pounders with an Okuma 9'3"H, it worked fine for a year. It was a lot of work jerking them back to the boat. I have a Big Dawg now, worth every penny.

I broke my 8'6" okuma rated for 16oz casting a pounder. They should change the rating on that thing.
