Hey guys,
I just got one of the Casio Fishing watches. It has the moon phases on it, and moon angles and "fishing peaks". After fishing with Rich Collins a few weeks ago, I had to get one. Hopefully Rich will see this message too.

But, how can you determine moon rise and moon set on this watch? It's easy to see sunrise, sunset. And on any given day, in the "fishing mode" there are four major fishing periods....do these correspond to moonrise and moonset?? ....if so, which ones??

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had one until the battery fried it and could not make heads or tails of it. It was great for planning vacations around moon periods.

So, does anyone know how to tell when moonrise and moonset is on this watch???

Steve the 4 peaks are just that peak times and not moonrise or set. Now if you push mode twice I believe you will get sunrise sunset but I am not sure about moonset. Maybe you need to read the instructions. LOL You know that book that comes with it. He he. []

BTW I use my GPS for both moon and sun rises and sets. [:sun:]

I have had one for awhile and like it well enough, however, you cannot tell moon rise or moon set times from it. I even contacted customer service at Casio on that one; they said consult your local newspaper...big help. Has anyone noticed much accuracy to the peak times it portrays? My luck has been hit & miss on that; not enough to say, but then that's Muskie fishing.

Rich Collins swears by it. Well, kind of. I don't want to speak for Rich, but he pays attention to the "Peak Fishing Times". He fishes enough and he fishes in a way that would show if the watch works or not....let me explain.

Rich fishes his spots. He's got trolling runs that he knows holds fish. So when he's trolling, he's always on a spot that can give up fish. So I'd say when Rich is trolling, he's just as likely to catch a fish no matter where he's fishing or how he's fishing....because he always fishes his spots.

That being said, he tells me (and proved it to me a few times a month or so ago) that fish seem to hit right around the peak times. Not all peaks gave up fish, but when the rod went off, it was mostly likely around a peak period. No kidding.

I'm a scientist. Not a superstitious person. But fish were hooked so many times during peak periods that I went out and bought one.

Just my opinions and my very limited experience with it.

Got one for my birthday which was last week. Far as I can tell it does not show moon rise/set and I've read the directions quite a few times.

What I have noticed is that if you compare the peak times to those listed in MHM "Bucher moon chart" and the ones in EA and allow for Lon/Lat difference they do coincide.

I did find out that Casio has two different models of fishing watch....Learned this by looking in a Bass Pro catalog. They have the Forester and the Fisherman or Fishing whatever they call it. I think the other one might show rise/set times. It explains it in the Bass Pro book.

Good luck....fun tool/toy...I've heard that they last about 3 years and then the processor takes a dump but for $30 that's not too bad.

Well call it coincidence or ?????....

Took my new boat out today along with it the watch I got for my birthday (previous post) and I"ll be dog gone if the first fish came just before the peak and the other one that I lost on a "minor" peak...

Gotta agree with you Steve H.and I am not about to debate Richards successes with it...dude boats more 50's in a year than I have my entire career.

It'll be interesting to see how this thing works come May when I have a whole season to play with it.

There are days the watch is a bust but those are normaly days where fish bite on and off all day or those dreaded days where you don't see a fish.

I am sold when there are days like last September when we get a single large fish follow in the morning 5 minutes from the minor and in the afternoon we troll up a 50 incher 5 minutes from the major. As the fish was getting released both me and the client say the morning follow was bigger. Now that was the only two fish we had contact with all day long.

There are days where I don't pay attention to the watch and after releasing a fish I look and see that it was a peak.

I don't have a clue how they get these peaks but man I can tell you they work. I am on the water all day long so I am not going out to fish peaks only so it is easy to see that there is some kind of fish activity around the peaks.

I will add peak times as well as try to get all my catches clocked in for my logs next year. With around 200 fish this should be a good amount of info to make a little study out of it. Believe it or not I have to write the times down right after the catch as trying to remember 4 to 9 catches exact times and sizes is impossible for my little brain. I have been guilty of this way to often. [:0]

P.S. I did use the word study and in no way am I talking about science here. [:sun:]
