Posts: 22 | Ok here's the info the boat is a 2012 Alumacraft dominator 185 sport with a yamaha 9.9 kicker and an f150. dry boat weight is 1530 current prop is a yamaha reliance series 14 1/4"x 18 pitch and turns at 6150-6200 rpm at WOT. I am getting between 46.6-47.8 mph with the live wells full and full fuel tank with two guys in the boat. I would like to bring the rpm's down just a little to the operating range of 5800-6000 and gain a few mph. I would think i should be right at 50 mph. any suggestions? | ||

Posts: 3488 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, With what you list for gear in the boat, I would say you could probably go to a 14-1/2 x 21 pitch pro series prop from yamaha. This should lower your rpms by about 700 rpms from a light load of just you and your gear, and empty livewells. Given you are running up to 6200 with two guys, gear, and livewells, I am figuring the number above from just you and your gear running around 6400 rpms. So...going to a 21 pitch would lower your rpms around 600 and the extra 1/4" in diameter will lower it another 100. If you decide to go this route, you also would be able to raise the motor off the transom another bolt hole or two without any real loss of handling, which would gain you around another 100 to 200 rpms. This would put you right at 5800 to 5900 rpms with just you and your gear and have you right around the top of the RPM range for that motor. With the prop being vented as well, it should still have enough pop to get out of the water quickly as well, and allow you to trim less as the pro series is highly raked and significantly cupped along the tip and trailing edge of the prop. Smooth runner as well. Then, when you load down, your prop should be able to handle the extra load without much issue. It will be a little slower out of the hole, but should handle things well.
