| not recomended... worse then not having one. i also believe voids warranty on it also. don't quote me on that though. thought i read this somewhere in the forums. |

| I don't have one for sale but get one! Leaving that head bouncing around, especially if it's an Auto Pilot, is just asking for trouble. |

| Rich, don't listen to the garbage about it voiding the warranty or being worse for the trolling motor head because there is nothing to absorb the "shock.". It's the best investment you can make to protect the complex circuitry and calibration of your terrova. The guys that say its actually worse for the motor don't understand simple physics and are just asking for trouble.
Get a stabilizer, you'll be glad you did.

Location: North Central IL USA | I'm not a physics guy but isn't the shaft taking a lot of the shock if the head's left to 'bounce around'? Of course you don't want it bouncing around so much that the head's hitting the gunnels.
I would think is it's mounted directly to the gunnel (assuming the bracket would be close to the head) with the bracket, the head would actually be taking more shock?? |

Location: Contrarian Island | i would not recommend either... it will take more shock if you have it mounted to the gunnel/ram mounted... think about it for a second...the shaft acts as a shock absorber...mounting to the gunnel every big wave/jar the boat takes on or off the road it shocks the head worse....imo i would never put one on it... i believe minn kota recommends not to if you call them they will verify? i've owned the same power drive on my ranger since 06 and haven't had a single issue w vibration...

| I'm no physasist (I can't even spell the word!) but I do know that in my Auto Pilot I went through two sets of "guts" in the head in a couple months, they actually vibrated apart. I talked to a guy I know at Minn Kota and he said to get a RAM for the motor, 3 or 4 years now and no issues. I have a 60" shaft and it would bounce so much on the water it was scary to watch! Even on the road the bounce was unacceptable IMO. If you can mount the RAM mount inside the boat instead of on top of the gunnel you can also set it up as a "stir up" to hook your foot under when the water is rough! |

| I called Minnkota when I bought my terrova 2 years ago and they recommended a RAM mount stablizer too. There is no shock to the trolling motor head when compared to the shock it absorbs when it is left to bounce around. The head is on the end of a 60" shaft; when subjected to even minimal bumps and waves it will magnify the force and bounce around a ton. There is minimal shock to the trolling motor head when it is securely fashioned and clamped down.
