Jono you know whatever a guide does is right. LOL. If they do the 180 turn around, then that means you are on thier lake, so you might as well leave. The shoulder is just a game of chicken. If you didn't have such a pretty Ranger you could call the bluff! JS

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | Jono, those two moves were started by the tournament guys, and perfected over time. If they move a fish they don't want the boat behind them catching it so they do the 180 and try to catch or at least burn the fish.

Posts: 432 Location: mpls | Get over it. I was cut off and cut in by Saric and Lapan so many times one day while they were filming that I just trolling motored over to them and asked if they just wanted my GPS coordinates for my next spot? Saw them many more times that day, they would zoom in towards the spot, see me and decide not to fish it. I appreciated that, but if they had decided to fish it I would have just shrugged it off. Point is, it is a fact of fishing these days. Annoying as hell, but not life threatening.

Posts: 8840 | All you really have to do is start doing figure 8's and turn to your boat partner and say "oh my GOD, did you see the size of that fish!! She was HOT, too, just missed my bait! Ohh, that one had to be 52. Did you see how FAT she was!!" Then you say "let's go back and run this same drift over again. We saw what, 3 fish in 20 minutes? And the last one was HUGE!! I've never seen a fish past here anyway." Between them thinking that there are 3 active fish right behind where they are fishing, one giant fish you just missed, and the fact that you've never even seen a fish past where you are fishing? Unless they really know the lake, they're going to burn through that drift, and them come back around behind you, and probably camp out there all day long. Then you can go fish wherever you want and take bets as to how many times they'll fish that spot before they give up.

Posts: 1220 | Hey, Jim never tried to jump on my spot....come to think of it, nobody jumps on my spots? Is that some sort of high form of respect...or are my spots crap?? Yipes, I am going to have to rethink this thing!! Still OK to cast at Jetskis though, my ability to cast the pounder is less distance than they are supposed to stay away from my boat. Therefore I could not be "technically" liable for hitting them ![]()

Posts: 793 Location: Ames, Iowa | I know that the DNR on Leech will take your other boat complaints seriously especially if you are anchored and the other boat or jet skier invades your space- intentionally or not. Just get a boat #. I've found like others have said here, that often these people don't even know that they are too close. Lots of once a year boaters out there. When the big sailboat went between me and the island I was fishing long time ago, I caught my 2nd muskie right in his wake. I was hoping he was going to split his keel on the rocks, but this was even better.

Old trick I used to use on Mille Lacs...carry an extra buoy marker 'cept that the weight is tied short (4 ft) so she drifts. Watch the goons follow it....and they will! Jeremy.

Ha ha , that is great... they were actually following a moving buoy? Or maybe then couldnt really tell it was slightly moving.

While it is annoying, life is too short to get all upset about it. Opening day I was out with my son and there were only a handfull of boats on the lake we were fishing. We motored into a bay, dropped the trolling motor and maybe covered 30 yards before a boat pulled in less a hundred feet in front of me. I was stunned, given the lack of boats but kept fishing, with the intent of cutting across the bay and away from them. Third cast after they cut us off, I pulled in a shortie musky from the water they had just fished. I just reached down with a pliers, shook it off the hook, pointed at their boat while shaking my head at my son. I then started the big motor an moved off. Still have no idea why they thought that was proper but I did catch a fish where they couldn't and my son and I went on to have a nice day fishing.

Posts: 252 | All of these posts about getting cut off reminds me of a time that my son and I were fishing Dale Hollow Lake in southern Ky. A Houseboat comes back in a huge cove where we were fishing and cuts us off. Can you believe that? A houseboat. Then a bunch of college girls came out onto the deck and pulled off their bikini tops. I'll never forget that. Yep, good memories...
