hi there,

Can you post what colors(hair and the blade)that works for you on sunny and overcast days.

If you could, also add what length and make of the lure/lures that you enjoy using.

thanks,

Ryan

I'm not a big bucktailer....but I find that the Windel's and the Ghosttails do me well, I go in a 8" to 10" size most of the time, using different blade types depending on what depth I am looking to work.

The only bucktail ive had success on this year, is the "Ghosttail III - 300 Series". Black with flourescent orange blade. These are rated at 2'-10', but I find they work best in the top 2' of water. Great bucktails for bringing over the tops of thick weeds. The Mepps muskie killers work great for pike and bass, but I cant imagine a big muskie chasing a bucktail that small. A few of my friends have had decent luck tossing buchertails. Orange/yellow with orange blade, and red/white with red/white blade.

I love flinging bucktails. And I've tried a bunch of types. My favorite, by far, is the Buchertail 700 series. Black hair with a nickle blade for overcast, and perch hair with a brass blade for bright days. (That perchy is a killer in clear water, too.) The 700's have great lift and so are very easy to use in weed pockets and through stumps, not too good for deeper applications.

The new Mepps Magnums are heavy and require a very fast retrieve. Pike love them, as do big smallies, but too fast for average muskies?

THE hot springtime bucktail is the...........all hot pink mepps musky killer. It's true. Amazing action for me until water temps hit about 60, then the fish won't look twice at it. Don't tell a soul!

I found myself becoming a believer in black haired green bladed tails this year. Don't have a preference on brand, but have favored trimming down some of the hair. Caught my biggest this year on a bucktail that looked more like a skinny black pencil with a green blade.

the only bucktail I had several strikes on is a willowbladed (size 6 chartreuse) bucktail with black hair, zipped over the weeds in cristal clear water in Sweden. Weather was freaking hot with temps of 34°C (say 100°F or so) and no wind.

hi guys thanks for the advice so far,

I know that jim saric uses black haired bucktail with a orange spinner during sunny days a lot, and I would think it would be the opposite.
