Heaved 2 pounders on the openner didnt fatigue me but felt like my Okumma 8.6 XXH was a time bomb waiting to explode into fibers
if an XXH cant do it what do you guys do/use,,,maybe its a side arm deal

Doesn't St. Croix make a Premier in XXXH that is rated up to 36 ounces? You might need something like that. I can't speak from experience though as throwing baits that weigh that much just makes me tired and sore just thinking about it.

Okumas typically tolerate less weight even though they say their XXH they aren't the same as others. For example, XXH Okuma EVX rods are rated 4-16 ozs as apposed to 8-36 for a TI XXH.

Tackle Industries XXH up to 36oz lures. I have one but have not used it for the 2lb lures but it works fantastic for throwing pounders and had backbone left IMO for 2lbers. Works great for working heavy jigs too. I have one taht is a little over 1lb and it works well.

Have not thrown them myself but if I was looking I would check into the Jaw Breaker XXH, Tackle Industries 9' XXH, St Croix 7'9 XXXH, or the heaviest Bulldawg rod they make. Off the top of my head those are about the only production rods made that have ratings to cast the 2 Pounders.
I picked up a TI XXH this year and in my limited use with it, it seems to handle Pounders well, but I imagine something weighing twice as much is a totally different animal.

I would also recommend a regular intense workout program, bottle of Ibuprophen, a good dose of insanity, and have a good shoulder surgeon on speed dial.

Don't listen to Tim Shmitz. He's never even caught a muskie. He's a poser.

That's probably good advise. I did catch a mid 30"er on Sunday though but not on a 2 pounder.

thanks guys for the info

how are the tips on those rods for holding fish???

I wont mention which one but one of the rods above has a rep for losing fish because the tip is too stiff and dosent maintain tension during the fight your experiences??

The XH predator is awesome for fighting fish! You can keep it loaded deep into the blank but you've still got a fast enough action to let it cast easily.

I have used an XH Pred for this for 3 years and it works great. last year I recieved and XXH Pred as a gift from the GF and used it sporarically during the early seasonal and almost exclsuivly in October & November and it is even better. Its definately is a nitch rod and in all honesty I would not have bought one myself but I am glad she got it for me. My biggest last year was a 52 on Thanksgiving afternoon jigging a 2 pounder over open water and the rod was a champ...

+1 to this.

I bought a new split grip XXH from James at one of the shows earlier this year and got a 2lb. Dawg on eBay. I made a few practice casts with it just a few weeks ago and the rod handles it more than adequately enough... and I'm not just talking about lobbing this bulge of rubber into the lake. I mean, this thing hauled off, snapped back and launched that swimbait... God knows how far.

Despite the rod handling it beautifully, there is no way in the world am I gonna be doing that all day long on a chilly October afternoon. That bait is beast!!
