anybody out there spend time on Lake Pepin - Lake City area MN.?

interested in general locations of gravel fleets and rock for small fishing. i've spent some time studying maps and googling some video and it looks like the MN. side has most of what i'm looking for.

i appreciate any feedback on launches, trouble spots or lodging/campgrounds.

thanks !!!

I've never fished Pepin but there is a very nice landing in the park on the north side on Lake City. See ppl troling for walleyes whenever I'm passing through there, if that's of interest along w/ the smallie action.

I haven't really fished that area much. I know there are some big fish down there but can be tough to find. Wabasha area is much better for green bass with a few smallies or from the red wing dam up through Prescott and the Croix are pretty good for the brown kind.

thanks for all the help guys ... i'm spending more and more time in minnesota and i guess i'm spoiled from a life of not having to fish with a crowd, so looking for more fishing options that don't include getting into a conga line or overcrowded weed edge. saturday i drove up hwy 61 through the area and Pepin caught my eye. looks like one enormous gravel flat that should be conducive to some solid smallie action.

did some youtube video work yesterday and plan to get over there to see what it's all about.

i appreciate your advice and will let you know what i find over the summer ...

smallie --- musky light and a lot more fun sometimes!!

Most every visible point on the MN side of the river from Lake City south to the river will hold smallmouth, the one straight across from the Pepin WI marina is one of the better ones and also the wingdam just up river from that. I used to fish the area quite a bit in April before the WI season opens, and then in late oct and nov, never did in the summer though. You will deal with crowds in the spring, and I think there's bass tournaments on that pool pretty much every weekend in the summer. In fall it can be so good its almost too easy.

I always launched at on the WI side at Pepin, the public landing can flood if the river is high, in which case the marina landing is still usable for 7$ if i remember correctly. I don't remember there being motel or campground in Pepin, but there are motels in Nelson and Alma WI, and there's a campground just north of Alma (there's also great smallmouth fishing in the river below alma)
