Fished the Webster Fall Melt Down on Saturday. Around 25 teams, only a few fish caught. I did happen to catch the biggest one though!

Had one on the first 15 minutes on a Shallow Invader, giving it the death twitch, hit during the figure 8, made the turn, a couple head shakes and gone. Caught one, saw a few others. All on the Invader.

Oh yeah, the biggest fish during the tourney that I caught, went a whopping 31 inches!

My dad, brother and I had 4.....39",36",34" and 32". Thought we were in for beating my brother at the 36" and 34" in the first hour on the only depth raider in the boat. The other two were caught on grandmas. Great day; everyone caught a fish.[:)] [:0]

Slow here, seems only suckers are working and they are not exactly tearing them up. We are about to turnover, in fact it may have already started. Glide and jerk baits took a couple of fish for me. Light topwater blowups early and late.

In three days of fishing, I caught a 38 inch musky and a 49.5 inch musky, all on quick strike rigged, 16 inch sucker minnows.

The 49.5 weighed 33.5 pounds, sporting a 22.5 inch girth. I have pictures and will scan shortly. Imagine having your digital camera next to an open livewell and a wave tipping it into the drink about 30 mintues prior to the 49.5...

This fish was on steriods... It hit the sucker rod and the clicker drag sounded like the hooks where attached to a dragster burning rubber after the lights went green.

As soon as I picked up the rod, the line was moving east to west as fast as it could.

Slamming the hooks home, the rod stoped about 1/4 of the way through the hookset and 4 more drag stipping runs left me in awe.

I have never had a fish hit and fight more powerful than this, including all my warm water fish...

Problems posting pics here so...

It was a fun weekend up here. The weather was really nice on Saturday with a high in the mid 30's and sunny. Sunday was a different story with highs in the upper 20's and a 15mph NW wind, brrrrr. Fished for a day and a half and got a 43, 41, and a 38". Also lost 2 more nice fish. Most fish we saw were up shallow with the last green weeds. The 43" came in about 17' though. Overall, a great time.

i got a 98 pounder...Sailfish...some monster Dorado...like 5 and 6 footers. so i had a good time on the water. Got a few nice Rooster fish off the shore too.
I was in Mexico mostly doing honeymoon aerobics!!!!!! but got out of our condo a few times to charter some boats.
Sitting on top the fly bridge watching a fish come 100 feet speeding like a bullet towards my bait just to have her crush it was similar to musky fishing.
Marlin fishing was slow, no hook ups, but i think i saw one..maybe. Our musky baits, w/o a doubt would work awesome for big saltwater game too.
i caught lots of small fish right off my shore where i stayed w/ bass lures, but not one fish would hit a spinner bait or bucktail...i guess the blades dont' work in the big ponds.
Being an unofficial fund raising chairperson for Webster Lake Musky Club, i'd be interested in what happen to the prizes too. Glad to hear my little brother representing while i was out[:sun:] .
keep it reel, YO[]

Ralph, Mike, what did we do w/ that plaques we spent all that $$$ on making for the tourney winners? hell, we make like 3 or 4 of them and they were nice becuase i saw the bill for them. these are things maybe i shouldn't take to a public forum, but i don't really care. what about the rods and prizes for the winners, biggiest realease, first fish...blah blah blah....

I guess I have to give up the Blind Squirrell moniker being that this is being used for the forces of evil and not good. That wasnt me.

Another perspective -

Our chapter runs a tournament every year and there have been years where conditions were not good and we had to have a contingency plan for prizes in case no legals were caught. Our plan if it happens is to have a lottery for the prizes. Give everyone a raffle ticket and draw for the prizes. We won't give prizes for sub-legals to those individuals for two reasons, a. that's not what the rules say we will do, and b. there was no witness for the sub legals. That I am aware of in that rules for the WLMC Tourney there was nothing about awarding prizes to individuals for sub-legals if no legals were caught. Therefore saying at the end of the event "who caught sub-legals" could generate all kinds of falsified fish potential when there are still prizes on the line. And don't forget, we don't know if every team showed up for the awards dinner so when they asked the question, "who caught sub-legals", we can't be sure there were not more or bigger fish caught.

The trophys.....that's another issue.

Luke,
I understand....somewhat. But the fish me and my brother put in the boat was witnessed by another boat, however, it was not a judge boat. The other fish, a 30" fish was also witnessed by a tourney participant and a friend of mine, Topwater Terry Anderson.

I am a little upset about the fact that my boat was one of only 2 or 3 that put a 30" fish or bigger in the boat, I we walked away with nothing. This was a Muskies Inc. outing, where a 30" fish can be registered. Not the PMTT. The rods were supposed to be given to the winning team, but since no legals were caught, why not at least give the rods to the teams that caught fish??

Why should someone walk away with a $250 rod and they never saw a fish all day, when other teams at least put fish in the boat. That's all.

I don't want to come off whining and I don't want this to turn into a big public bashing thing or anything like that, but I fished this thing to win, and my boat caught the biggest fish, and we walked away with nothing. Simple as that.

Yet, people who didn't catch a fish walked away with nice rods, and a slew of stuff that I bought personally to be raffled and auctioned off, and a bunch of nice stuff that my brothers and I obtained from sponsors. We donated and obtained a considerable amount of merchandise for this fund raiser, and it felt like we got screwed in the end. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth for sure.

Just finished up my last party of the year and we boated 10 fish in two days (2-45",42,2-41,40, and the rest in the 30's) and lost two fish which we never saw.All fish where caught on 10" Jakes with a multitude of colors working.

Caught a 40 on a quick strike on a steep break. Only time I have seen a fish at this spot all year-just like someone said about those November spots.[;)] Thanks for the insight. Also had 2 others smack the manta but no hook up.

Boated a 34" fish trolling sat. Very windy, wanted to cast and drag suckers but boat control was impossible and was the needed presentation.
