Any reports out of the metro for the opener? Forest and Baldy were a complete bust for us. Fished Sat and Sun morning, only moved a few lazy fish and most guys we talked to we're really struggling. There seemed to be no pattern what so ever, a few fish super shallow, a few fish super deep and a few fish exactly where they should be. The highlight of our day was taking the boat out of Forest Lake and having the cute MN DNR girl inspect our boat for invasive species.

Buddy and I Fished sat from 4:30 - 3 and raised about a dozen fish total, nothing to put in the bag. Fish didn't seem to be really excited as there were several "lazy" follows. Fished this morning till 10 and saw 3, again none in the bag with the exception of a little pike.

Fished on Waconia yesterday and today for about 8 hours each day and had no action at all. Quite a few boats out on Saturday, barely any tonight. The guys I talked to didn't have much luck either, a few lazy follows but that was it. Heading out to Minnetonka tomorrow, hoping for little bit better luck! Anyone have any luck out there this weekend?

Fished in the north metro from 5:30am to 1pm then 5pm-10pm. Moved 4 fish, one of which I hooked on the 8 and I horsed her and she popped off. About a 38" fish.

Fished bald saturday morning. as everyone else knows it was ridiculous out there! guys tossing baits everywhere. I only saw one guy get cut off bad from another boat, so it was nice to see everyone getting along. raised a few fish. They where pretty spooky, no chance on the 8. trucked up to rush today moved 2 fish and boated one.

Where in the water column have people been having success? Personally we were moving fish in the 8-14ft range and saw a few fish surfacing in open water areas.

Fished opener for a few hrs. on forest... we saw a few, got one small one and lost one other. Even though I lost the other one it was cool seeing... I was testing a new prototype bait from the garage... took a cast, liked the action and started figure 8ing so my friend could see the action... as I was admiring the action asking him what he thought a high 30ish Musky came out of nowhere and crushed it. Nothing too crazy yet but have put a couple others in the boat in last couple trips with 42.75" being the biggest. These ones were all from the deeper greener weeds that I could find on two different lakes.

The last post by rookie (if true) sums up the sheer rediculousness of this sport. Couple of guys who know nothing of catching muskies go out to the most heavily pressured metro lake in MN and throw the most popular bait and catch three muskies over 40". SMH

Guest,

Your the reason I can't stand a lot of musky fisherman these days. Leave the attitude at the dock. The guy gave an honest to goodness report and deserves credit where credit is due. No need to be debbie downer because you weren't the one boating fish.

x 2 plop and yes Guest just beacuse someone is new to muskie fishing dosent mean they are not experienced anglers
as you should know the sport "muskie fishing" is getting more popular every year so dont be such a downer its a great report and give them credit for a 3 fish day

"honest to goodness report" As we all know everything written by anon posters such as myself and the rookie are always true. No chance he is trying to steer people toward Forest and away from his favorite lake prior to the metro tournament, could never happen.
The only thing this year that rivals the number of anglers I've seen are the B. S. stories I've heard. Had a guy troll past me Sunday on Bryant saying he caught a 60" Saturday on Tonka that was "as fat as I am". He weighed 250lbs ish. I guess I should have congratulated him on the new sate record. Seems odd one would be chasing Tigers on Bryant after boating a state record the day before on Tonka????

I call BS, happens every year, people try to steer people from one lake to another before the tourney.

Forest is like a lot of the metro lakes. The fish bite when they want to and often not when one expects. They can really go when they turn on and then shut down suddenly and for days afterwards. It doesn't matter so much as to one's experience level, its just a matter of being there when they are feeding. The fish bite when they want to and there is not much one can do about it. So, please don't anyone feel bad if a rookie caught some fish. We all caught our first Muskies too.

I was planning on spending a lot of time on Bald Eagle this year, but after being on Forest for a day early last week, I've decided thats where I'd like to spend a lot of my time. Was out last night before the storms rolled in and had a few nice fish up and chasing off the deep weed edge, but abandoned those fish to go help someone that was struggling release a 52.5". I've seen 4 fish floating out there already this year and I didn't want this fish to become another one of those, so I tied the boat up to a dock, jumped into the water, and walked it around until it finally swam off...kinda scary with lightning everywhere, but at least it worked out(I hope so at least as the fish was really struggling to right itself for a while there). I normally wouldn't get out of the boat, but I was getting blown around so bad that I would have been dragging the fish around, so it was easier to stand still and keep her face into the wind. Good luck out there this year and thanks to all that have given me tips so far this season!
