I have two Quantum Iron reels that are approximately two months out of warranty. Both of these reels are giving me the same problem, the gears slip occasionally on rips and hooksets. Has anyone else experienced problems with these reels? Is it worth it to send them back to Quantum to be repaired? Is there an update for these gears, because obviously there is a problem with them. When they were working properly they were pretty decent reels, especially for the price(40% off at Fleet Farm).

Norm;
Sounds like a line problem .If you're using a braid,
you may be slipping on the arbor! Pull it off ,place a
layer of duct tape around arbor and wind back on .This
may be the fix you need ,and its almost free.......
Plus ,if you have all braided on the reels ,in two
years ,rewind that line on reversed and you double the
life of your purchase.

Dennis thanks for the idea, already have a mono backing behind the power pro and there is no line slip. It actually is a gear problem. You can hear them grind when ripping or setting the hook. I don't do any of my own reel repair but I have a hunch that they must use plastic gears and the teeth on them are worn or broke. Maybe I'll just send them back to Quantum.

I had (just sold/gave to a friend) a Quantum Iron reel and the line guide broke due to me forcing frozen line in and out a season or two ago. I sent it into Quantum and explained I had no evidence of when I purchased it for warranty purposes, but said I would pay for repairs if necessary. They sent me a new reel (replacement) and my old spool full of TuffLine (have two spools now), no questions asked! It was a very quick turn around time, too. I think the reels are worth repairing, even if they are not the best on the market, and the Company's customer service was great.
