| When the "technical talk" gets started... it often focuses around presentation. Problem is, we can't catch what isn't there. So, how do we go about discussing LOCATION on this "research" board????
Do we need to "research" weather, water chemistry, forage base, structures, etc. etc.????
Any other ideas?? |

| I would think time of year has a great deal to do with location. It has been shown in many studies that time of year play a key role in all characteristics that a lake will exhibit like water clarity, temp, baitfish movements, seasonal weather patterns, etc. Types of location based on time of year and what the baitfish are doing I think plays a huge role on fishing success (or in my case,lack thereof!). |

| I think that we must classify location. And we have to generalize because there is always exeptions. The first heading should be General seasonal locations now we can break it down from there. This could be the never ending post?

| Let me throw a curve in here. You often read "find the baitfish and you will find the muskies". I have a good friend that catches thousands of muskies that would rather fish "where the baitfish just WERE". Baitfish gone, muskies still there and catchable! Worked for me with a 41 pounder caught in an area of NO baitfish where the day before they had been thick. Of course for this to work, you need to have a lot of consistent/consecutive days on the water. For what it is worth.

Your saying that your buddy finds baitfish and follows behind them? Wow, I have never heard that before. Does he fish diffent locations meaning different open water locations or does he follw behind them from open water to the shallows and breaks.

| Musky Illini: What I am saying is that if you have been fishing an area that has had bait fish and they suddenly disappear (move), the immediate period thereafter could be the best time to catch muskies that were keying on them.

| Just was reading this thread and can relate to Larrys friend on his baitfish pattern. Once the baitfish move from a spot it seems like the muskies still look for bait in that area, I noticed this year trolling that when a spot loads up with bait for a long period of time(week or two) that even when the bait moves from that area the fishing stays good to excellent for a day or two. This might be because the muskies in that area got used to this forage and when it moved away they continued to feed on what was left, our baits. I think it is very important to match the bait fish the best you can.[;)] |
