| I just bought and installed this handle on my calcutta 400 te. I was wondering how careful you need to be when casting so it doesn't engage the reel? I dry casted it a bunch of times and it would engage if the handle was in the up position. I am wondering if this changes once you have it spooled up and throwing a lure? I would have no problem making sure I kept the handle in the down position if I had to, would just have to make it a habit. I'd rather not find out the hard way. Thanks for your input. |

| Does it have a counterweight on it? If it doesnt you can get one from daves reel service or from pikemaster. I had one put on mine and it hasnt engaged at all but I dont think ive used it enough to find out for sure that it wont happen |

| It does have a counter weight on it. I bought this style for that reason over a few other choices. I got it from Dave's reel service and have to say it arrived quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference over the standard paddle. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Like I have been saying, 99% is how you cast not how much weight you have on the counter balancer. Why add more weight to the handle ????
Cast with the handle side of reel facing upwards, next keep your thumb on the cast release button during the cast, that way the spool will not engage on you for sure 100% will not. Just turn on 3-4 spool brakes so the reel won't bird nest on you. Also don't overpower on the cast, let the weight of the bait do the work for you not your body. GOOD LUCK.
PS I guess Not Selling Anything and Not Getting Paid is wrong about the 700 BSV handle with added counter weight added. LOL, ck out the 401 TE power handle post. |

| Yeah I've been watching that post, good info. I personally feel more comfortable casting with my thumb on the spool, it works for me. I was interested in getting a little bit more info on this particular handle. From all the experience people have on this board I respect everyone's input. My concern came from when I dry casted and it engaged. I was under the impression that a counter balanced handle alleviated this from happening? Maybe not. |
