Does anyone know how to check to see if the trim motor is the bad part?
It is a 1992 merc 150, there is power to the motor and it clicks. Pulled the trim motor part off and it doesnt spin. Just wondering if it is the actual trim motor or something else before buying the new part.
Thanks

See your local Mercury dealer, that's your best bet.

If theres power to the motor and nothing happens I would bet on the motor. I you remove the motor from the pump and apply power will it run. im no expert but can usually figure these things out by trial and error. I had a similar problem a couple years ago on my 89 75hp mariner and found it easier and cheaper to buy a used trim unit off ebay.

There is a fuse located on the block of the motor it is black and square shaped not sure what its called. I have had to replace on two different motors. If you go to any marine dealer they should be able to tell you if your motor has one. I think it was a ten dollar part so might be worth a try. good luck

The problem might simply be the switch itself.

If it makes a tick.tick.tick noise when you try to trim it, the motor is out in your hydraulic pump for the trim... I got mine replaced for like a $130 I bought a refurbished motor for the pump and it had no problems whatsoever.

If you live in MN look up Boat motor recylcers in Burnsville

Yep, it makes the tick noise.
Got a new pump on order.
Took it apart and full of water and gummed up real bad.
Thanks for the help.

Well got the new pump on last night.
Only way to get it to work is to jump across the seloniod or the relay's not sure what they are called. Then it works both up and down.
Both seloniods bad, relays? Or somthing else?
Thanks

The black fuses are relays...that is usually the problem.
