| Take a saw and cut along the belly, insert your wire and seal shut.
You can also use metal plates with this method, haven't tried it but seen it documented in luremaking books. |

| They make a router bit that looks like a table saw blade that cuts the belly out nicely. You can also make the body in 2 halves and glue together. |

Location: Glen Ellyn Il | I have been building baits both ways wire through and screw eyes. Wire through I cut two halves and I run a 1/8 inch router bit than I glue the two halves with water proof gorilla glue. Now I am pretty convinced that screw eye is the way to go I use one inch screws and longer and there is no way that they are comung out, providing you are using hard wood. If yuo use softer wood than you could cut hard wood dowel pins and insert/ epoxy in to the bait and use screw eyes. Screw eyes baits come out much cleaner and no epoxy to mess with. My two cents

Location: Muskegon Michigan | I just use a hand drill. Its easy once you have done a few. I drill from both ends and meet in the belly holes. Its not a weight or balance thing so you dont have to have a jig or a perfect straight line bore to thread the wire through. Remember this is old school technology not rocket science. Mike |
