Posts: 682 Location: Sycamore, IL | Looking for some advice...got home from the lake and looked at my Liqua Lube hub and it has turned almost black and there is a bit of oil on the tire rim. It did not feel hot to the touch, but something is obviously wrong. Is this something that I can fix myself or should I take it in to my local boat dealer? If it is something that I can do myself where is the best place to get the parts? This is an older K-D Launcher trailer from the mid 90's if that matters and I have not done any service on the hubs/bearings since I have owned it. I want to get this repaired asap as I do not trust it to be safe any longer. Thanks in advance! Matt p.s. I will try to take some pics if you guys think that would help. Posts: 32885 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If the liquid in the hub is 'more full' than before, the seal on the front of the cap or rear seal might be bad. If the entire front of the cap is dark, the yellow baffle might have let go. The system is pretty easy to take apart, the front screws hold the cap on. Also check the fill screw and make sure that is tight. If either seal is bad, call K Dee at 920.648.8202 and order the parts. Been a very long time since I called over there, but the number should be the same.

Posts: 682 Location: Sycamore, IL | Thanks Steve...I will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. Here are some pics of the hub...first one is the "good" one and the second is the "bad" one. Since I am doing this should I do both sides? Should I do anything with the wheel bearings? Is there anything else I should be looking for? Thanks Matt Attachments ---------------- P1010174.JPG (13KB - 123 downloads) P1010170.JPG (19KB - 120 downloads)

Posts: 32885 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Get the new seals in place and refill, roll the wheel while off the ground a bit and listen to the bearings. if they are smooth and easy rolling, should be OK. You should change the fluid every year, btw.

Yikes, that's a long time. I would be looking for someone to put on all new bearings and seals if it were mine. Auto shops can do it to, normally cheaper and faster.

Posts: 682 Location: Sycamore, IL | Good point Jerry...would be added peace of mind if nothing else! How hard is it to change out the bearings/ seals myself? Matt

Location: 31 | I'm lucky that my auto mechanic is also a fisherman (and friend) and has handled that for me over the years, he even has the same Yamaha outboard motor and does my engine winterizing and maintenance too. Here's a couple of links I found, maybe somebody who redoes oil hubs can chime in. http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wheelbearingpack.aspx http://users.westco.net/~tandjlm/Information/Bearings.htm
