Posts: 28 | I have been muskie fishing for some years. I have a St. Croix Muskie Mojo with an Abu Garcia Record on it. I am looking to get another rod & reel. I have been looking at Tackle Industries rods and various reels. I was thinking of a low profile Abu Garcia Winch. Any suggestions? Please.

Posts: 150 Location: Central Minnesota | This question has been touched on many times and there are many helpful previous posts. I would do a couple different searches and you will find a plethora of knowledge. The question of which reel to get really depends on what type of baits you plan on throwing and what type of fishing you plan on doing. Then you need to determine how much money you want to spend. If you tell us what kind of fishing you want to do and how much you plan on spending you will get some better suggestions. Good Luck

Posts: 8780 | Well, you've already got one reel that's a good "all around reel" What's the record, 5.3:1? Your choices would be to go with something that has a low gear ratio (like the Winch) for hard pulling baits (double 10's for example), or a high speed reel for jerkbaits, walk the dog lures, etc. that takes up slack line quickly. It kind of depends on what you want it for. As far as a rod? Personal preference. I love the longer rods because I am over 6' tall, and I don't have to bend down as far doing figure 8's. Samantha is 5'2, and anything over 7'6" is just to long for her, as she winds up smacking the rod in the water on most retrieves. She's fine with a longer rod in a taller boat, and I am fine with shorter rods in boats that are closer to the water, so that's something to consider as well. I've got the Record and the Winch, and I like both, but I use them for competely different purposes.

Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | I agree completely with esoxaddict. If your looking for the low profile in the Abu, I would defiantly say the winch or the Toro HS. I LOVE MINE!!! As far as rods, can't beat tackle industries price points thats for sure. But there are a ton of great rods out there. Just have to look into it and find what you really want. I own a 7'6" shimano and am picking up a tackle industries 9' XH rated 3-12oz at the MN expo this year. I also enjoy the longer rods, more distance with casts, easier to use (at least for me, I'm 6'5") bigger figure 8s...ect... hope this helps

Get yoruself a Tackle industries MH and XH rod and you will be able to throw anything you want. Used my buddies last year and I was surprised how well it felt and handled lures and I am a hard core high end user of rods. Price is no option for me and the TI rods are as good or better than my high end rods I currently use. After I got my two rods from TI they became my main rods in my boat for the remainder of the year in 2011. Great rods. Tommy
