First off how do you hook 2 12 volt batteries to run a 24 volt trolling motor, and how do you hook it to a charger. I've never been around any 24 volt hook ups. Thanks Doug

Two batteries A and B. Take a cable from the negative on battery A and hook it to the positive on B. The negative from the trolling motor goes to the negative on battery B. The positive from trolling motor goes to positive on battery A.

With a two bank battery you hook one positive and negative to battery A and the other positive and negative to battery B.

depends on the charger. I have a Guest charger and i hook them up Neg to Neg, pos to pos. Again, the charger determines.

Can you charge 24v batteries with a regular portable charger? Or do you need to unhook them and charge seperatly?

12V charger will only charge 12V battery. If you have two 12V batteries and a 12V charger, you need to hook the batteries up in parallel (Connect positives together and negatives together). Then attach charger to positive on one and negative on the other. You can charge them separately, but this way the batteries are equally charged and you don't have to remember to switch the charger.

I did this for a while when I went to 24V, major pain to be constantly switching the wires around each time you charge the batteries. If you can hack it, get an onboard 2 bank charger so all you have to do is plug it into the wall.

agreed, get a 2 bank charger (Guest or Dual Pro) and you don't have to do any switching. Remember its a good idea to charge your batteries after a day on the water. I charge mine every day after fishing. Charged batteries will last longer then letting them run down. If you charge like you should, swapping terminals all the time will be a real PITA.
