| I'm looking into building a new house and was wondering what width garage door is needed. Right now I have a 14' lund so size doesn't matter, but in the future I wouldn't mind upsizing to a 16-18ft. What type of width counting trainer and length and I expect to encounter when moving up to a boat this size. If you could give me an example of your boat model and measurements it would really help me out. Thanks.

| DTE: Let me measure my boat and garage again. I run a 16ft Crestliner and I am able to fit my boat in easily. I have the type of garage door where it is 2 small gargage doors in 1. You know what I mean, I think 9x9?
Now, an 18 ft would not fit in mine. Too wide and could not even get in sideways I bet. |

| Dude, picture yourself being there for a good while...as you acumulate stuff, you will need the added space; I would count on the boat/trailer package being from 20'-23', + allow for another ft. of space after that. Spending a little extra on the garage will help out as your family E X P A N D S![:0] |

Max width on a trailer, tire to tire, is 102". Depth wise, I would suggest you visit a couple dealers, and measure some of the show room models, from back of motor to the front of the tongue. I am able to fit my 17 1/2' Lund straight in my 20' deep garage, barely. I got the swing away tongue, and it fits by inches.
My opinion, a guy can never have to big of a garage![:bigsmile:]

| I don't know about how wide my garage door is, but I am greatfull for my 25' deep garage. My 18' Tuffy fits in there without removing the tongue, and with the motor up. I still have about a foot behind the engine. I would say plan on a width around 9 feet for your boat. That way if you decide to upgrade your boat, you will not have to worry about the width. My suggestion would be, make your garage as large as possible. If your house is 28 feet deep, make your garage as deep as your house. As far as width goes, make yourself a 3 car garage. That way you have a stall for your vehicle, a stall for her vehicle, and a stall for your boat. This way also you will have enough area by your vehicles for a workbench area.

| Dude, Lance brought up a good point...make sure the wife has plenty of room for her stuff, then you will basically have free reign for the boat but also other activities! |

| DTE, build it big........Mine is 30' x 35' and is still not large enough for all my crap. Go with a 10' door on the side your boat will be in. I have a 9' door and can just squeak in. Mere inches on each side. You never know when you will get a bigger boat. Make sure the the door is tall enough as well. You will want to leave your pedestals in when backing into the garage. You will not always remember to depress them either. I know of this trouble 1st hand. Always easier to get more stuff to fill up the garage. Not so easy to make it bigger. |

| You will never wish you would have built smaller. A swing-away trailer tongue is also a "must" no matter how big you go. Also, go with the TALLER garage door, I think it is 8 foot. This way you can work on your boat without hitting your head on the garage door when it is in the up position. |
