is it normal for the trailer to scratch the bottom of the boat where the carpet runners or whatever the boat rests on is. I have a black boat and maybe its just noticeable more on the black. JW

Yes, very normal. The bottom of my boat is black and you can see where the bunks rub on the front of the hull while loading. I'm sure it's not just the carpet that's doing the scratching too, there's obviously a lot of sentiment in the water at the launch that accumulates on the carpet.

If it really bothers you, you can have those scratches buffed out and periodically spray some of that spray silicone on the carpet to help reduce friction. I would assume that the deeper you dip your trailer, the less your boat is going to be scratched by the bunks too.
