A buddy of mine is getting a kicker for his boat, the boat has a 20" transom, I told him he needs a kicker with a 20" shaft. Am I correct on this? Most dealers are telling him a 25" shaft would be better. The kicker would be used as a backup to the big motor only.

No way does he need a 25" shaft kicker. 20" is perfect. If he put a 25" shaft kicker on the boat, the lower unit would be dragging when the boat is on plane.

If dealers are telling him that, I'd be wary of purchasing through them...
