Posts: 4266 | Many of you have met my daughter Taylor at outings in Rhinelander and at Spring Bay. She missed last hockey season due to a foot fracture, and spent almost all this summer on crutches because of a reaggrivation while working out. She asked to come out to my painting room when the temps dropped, and asked if she could paint some lures. I have some "Fake Jake' bodies from ebay that are actually very good blanks and I let her have at one of them. She went through some fish books and found a salt water fish that she liked. I was impressed. Stripes, dots and scales and even her signature. She enjoyed painting it, and plans on doing more when she gets time. I'm proud of her fearless nature and will to try other things when things change. I think I heard something about custom painted helmets and sticks. We'll see how that goes. She's a bit of a 'hoarder'. She has a Garfield collection with about 1500 pieces. A tackle box with lots of the first 'Castors' that I made, and a dozen 6" HR's that she took a liking to. It will be a while before she'll be selling any, but I'm sure that she will appreciate the interest. I think she has an eye for fish-catching color combos. Beaver

Posts: 4266 | Yes I am Stan. The best part is that it was her idea. She wanted to paint, looked thru a book and found a pattern that she thought was cool, and learned the process from there. The only thing that I did was clean the brush between coats. When she said,"Now the stripes.", I gave her an old blank that is primed that I'll shoot colors on sometimes, and I told her to make a stripe. It looked real good. Then I said,"Now do ten more." After number 2 I told her,"Go ahead, you know what you're doing." Same with the spots, she did a couple and then went right to the lure. I hope she continues doing it, and finds that something inside that will make her want to keep doing it. Beaver

Posts: 4266 | Not exactly.....she's on crutches, no hockey again this season. I just talked to the surgeon today and will have to have knee surgery in the next two weeks, so no fall fishing again this year. And I don't have that many falls left. All the big gliders and cranks that I started will have to wait until next year. No telling how long before I can go up and down to the basement or out to the garage, so it's back to the couch that I wore out when my back was killing me. It's always something. All you healthy bastards count your blessings. Edited by Beaver 9/19/2012 12:42 PM

Posts: 4266 | We pray for one another, that's how it works. E-mail me your address, I made some highly figured CA Redwood 6" cranks, and though you can fish them, they will look good on a Christmas tree. Peace, Beaver and Taylor

Posts: 1207 Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | Hey Beav, Sorry to hear about the knee, What are they doing to it? I had surgery done on both my knees a year apart several years ago, I had torn the minisus in both. ( spelling) Wish you speedy recovery my friend.

Posts: 4266 | I'll know for sure on Monday. In July I was watching Taylor play co-ed softball, these are those hard in-seam balls, and I was BSing with some parents, not paying attention and a big kid ripped a shot foul and hit me square in the inside of the right knee. I didn't flinch, but was talking like Clint Eastwood in my head. It bruised from my calf up my thigh. It didn't really hurt until the bruise went away. Little by little the pain got worse to the point that I can't walk now. I'll find out Monday. Keep praying until then for those of you who do that kind of thing. Beav
