Subject: Lake Calhoun - MN state record caught?

Sunday October 20, 2002

I was watching channel 45 in Minneapolis and they did a commercial for tonights broadcast at 10:00 PM CST. They showed two guys on a dock holding a large Muskie (appeared to still be alive). And the newscaster said something like, find out how this Muskie caught in Lake Calhoun (in Minneapolis, MN) compares to the Minnesota State record. Since I may not be able to watch the news this evening I was wondering if anyone has anymore information?

Sorry I couldn't give anymore information, I only caught a part of this commercial.

It was just a couple of clowns fishing from the pier that didn't know any better....

48 incher, 26 pounds...

too bad, hated to see them holding it with a stringer jabbed through its nose....

Ok, I seen the clip, and it's nothing like the news commercial implied. Geez, the news really knows how to hype up stuff. They said, "Find out how this fish compares to the MN state record!" Thus making us think someone came close to catching the MN record. These guys did not even come close:

48 1/2 fish / 26 1/2 pounds
using a sucker minnow, 17 lbs test

They obviously kept it since the news reported a two pound northern inside.

The news did not even make a comparison to the MN State Record. Not that we needed one, but they basically exaggerated the whole story.
