The weeds were not what they have been in years past.  The type of weeds have been changing too.  What used to be all milfoil is changing to more curly leaf weed. Not sure what the exact species is. It grows in patches.

In October I found the fish shallow.  I have not been out since due to family and work commitments.

Good luck out there.

Jerome,
Click on here and then click on the daily lake elevation(blue number) and that will give you the graphs for the lake levels, also preciipitation history, and deviations from where the lake is to where it should be(middle graph). Any KY lake that is more than a couple feet above summer pool, probably is not a good bet in winter, until water starts warming. You also need to check discharge rates, and when you get over 1,000 that will effect the fishing also, normal winter rates will be down in the low hundreds for both Cave and Green River. Both lakes are fishable all winter when the water is right.

Thanks guys, I'll probably be there in mid to late Feb. and then again sometime in March.
Soooo,.... are the weeds in the shallowest parts of some of the "Hallers" or are they out in deeper water??.... Or should I be fishing near the main channel with timber and deeper water?

Depends on the water temps. If you're lucky enough to get a three day warming trend there will be some fish move up shallow. Make sure to check out Warix that time of year either way.

Jerome,
We went out yesterday and had 4 fish moving. 3 on crankbaits. 1 one a large sucker. Missed the one on the sucker and caught 2 of the 3 on the cranks. One a fat 35" the other a shorty. Water temp is 40-44 degrees where we were. Water was clear to stained. As long as the weather stays like this, you will be able to get some action going!! Good luck.

It was 60 today!

They are pulling water hard and it rained again tonight. I wish I could say more but I have not had a chance to get out.

Just got back from a great couple of days down at Cave Run and thought I would post a report: Fished Monday in the snow-trolled deep and shallow-no fish. Fished Tuesday in 60 degree weather-trolled very shallow-three fish on but lost all three(talked to some guys that said our drags were to tight). Fished Wednesday in 60 degree weather-trolled shallow again with much looser drag settings-connected with and boated three fish:36,38 and 44! Fished Thursday morning in clouds and rain-trolled shallow again- connected with 3 fish and boated two: shorty and a 35! Hit the road around noon. This was our best early season trip ever with five fish boated including my buddies first, second and third muskies ever caught. Wanted to thank Tony Grant for his hospitality at the Muskie Mountain Lodge and for steering us in the right direction with bait choice and location. Here is a picture of my friend Mark with his first muskie a healthy 44 incher and a pic of me with a 36 and our teammate Indy the muskie dog doing his part...we will definitely be going back to this lake!

Matt
