Crappies wre tough to do, at least forme. This I am going to try again with gill paltes a litle darker. The picture of this white crappie off the internet had white gill plates with tints of blue. I did not quite catch the color my first try, Maybe white with some yellow. Suggestion welcomed

I'd suggest some bigger spots that are random and various shaped...not just round. Also seems to need some more pearl, silver and blue/green metallic color....It WILL still catch fish though.

looks more like a washed out perch. i agree with the above poster. take a look at any photo of a crappie and the spots are totally random and not necessarily circular (more like blotches). needs more white, too.

still 1,000X better than i'd be able to do!

Phantom lures' crappie is one of the best IMO.

Try a sponge to make random/odd shaped splotches.

It's cool looking but not much like a crappie more like a perch. Get rid of the green, silver or white base and make dark blotches put them closer together on the top so that the top is almost black and space them out as you go down the side so it fades to white on the belly.

SPG,

I like your take on the crappie....looks good! Here is one I did a couple of years back. I cut out a stencil from a photo I had....I think my hand is still cramped from that one.

Best of luck,

MS

DON'T get rid of the green and white. Just make a little change in shading. Next time you catch a crappie, pay close attention to it. It has a light hint of irridescent green on it.

Thanks for posting your crappie, looks very cool. The crappie that I am trying to copy has vertical bars. What I see in the picture is the bellie and around the gill plates there is lots of white with some yellow and turquois tint, than the back I see green and darker like a forest green irregular spots like your crappie with irregular spots that you really nailed it. I painted the spots with a piece of wire and the spots are irregular and kind of rectangular shape. In the picture of the crappie I painted they look round but they are not. Any way I am going to make a stencil and see how that works out. I may give up on the vertical bars, otherwise it ends up looking like a perch
I did post a picture of the crappie I am trying to paint on this forum

Thank you every one for your inputs. This is lots of fun and I am willing to learn

Thank You
Gino
