While most will say topwaters and blades are most used, how many of you guys use cranks after dark?

I personally have never used them after dark, But I have a few buddies who swear by loud rattling crank baits at night. Anything to get them to hone in on the bait, the louder the better.

Absolutely use them. You are missing out if you are not. Also needing loud, and black baits at night is an old wives tale. Anything that works during the day for cranks will work at night including light colored, non rattling baits.

Jamie,
I use them all the time. If the water is clear I like straight cranks after dark. if it is dirty i like jointed. May last year the Diesel was my best bait after dark.
June i did good on Depthraiders And MX7.5's after dark.
Sept oct nov. I did good on MX9's, depthraiders and a few on jakes
As you well know alot of time there is way to many floating weeds to use surface baits here in madison. I usually have one guy throwing blades and one throwing a crank till the fish tell me what to do, some nights they want blades some nights they will not touch them.
Good Luck,
Jeff Hanson

Have caught plnety on Kickn minnows, and dunwright perch after dark..
Fishing with a Lee Tauchen a few years back he caught a 49.25 one night, I caught a 48.25 the next night on those dunwrights..
Kinda seemed crazy at the time, boating 2 four footers in 2 nights on different lakes with one bait.
I know jointed depth raiders are popular, but I tend to throw the 2 I mentioned..

get the Small pond monsters dvd by Scott Keiper..... Big Game Taclke has a 12 inch crank that has put many big fish in the net at night.

Use them all the time. Most of the cranks i have make noise which i can only see as just as good as any bucktail. most cranks today rattle.

Cranks are awesome night baits. Depthraiders and Jakes at night have been very good to me. Last fall I started using the Slammer Deep Minnows and really like the hard thump of these baits; my last musky of 2011 was a fat-47 crawling a 10" Slammer Deep Minnow over weeds at night in late November.

My 2 favorites have already been mentioned. Tough to beat a 12" Big Game or a Krisco. Different "noise" but both really effective. I will be throwing the 9" jointed Big Game this season.

I love cranks after dark. I usually have a crank and some blades going and between the 2, one's usually getting bit. I tend to fish straight cranks more then jointed as I've had more success on the straights more then the rattlers for some reason. Depthraiders, kick'n minnows and Dunwright baits (if those are considered cranks), and Jakes all get eaten for me at night. One particular depthraider has gotten chewed to heck over the past few seasons. It's a silent DR, so no rattles. Fish love that bait for some reason.

Definitely keep them in the water. They'll work all year long.

I like Legend outcasts trolling at night. Only noise I care about is a musky splashing and fighting.

Absolutely!! Before big blades, most night men made their living on cranks top and tails. It depends on where I am fishing really, but I like jointed cranks at night, even in the gin, though I use a jointed crank with very light rattles, the Hi Fin Trophy diver. Also, night fishing cranks isn't just for shallows and weedlines. The suspendos eat em at night too.

Favorites:
Trophy Diver(jointed and straights, all modified with a bit of weight
Depth Raiders
Jakes
