Hey guys I am looking at trying to weight some double 10s so I can fish them down atleast 20 feet. I was wondering how much weight it would require to keep the bait down that deep, after I counted the bait down to the desired depth. Thanks much.

Could also look at using a weighted stealth leader.

if your going to troll you can use 1oz. egg sinkers and make a keel out of a ball bearing swivel and a piece of bucktail wire.

if you going to cast you can add clamp on rubber core sinkers and take the rubber core out and use a pliers to crimp them on.

I use an 8 ounce ball when trolling 10's. You will get down one foot for every five feet of line out.

I usually add 1-2 oz of weight for casting purposes...I use solder and I'm not real scientific about it. I can weigh a couple on my digital scale to see what the exact weight is if you're interested. The slim profile and added weight is going to make them sink relatively fast. The retrieve speed is what is really going to affect running depth. To work around 20' down...I usually give them a 10 count when they hit the water...rip hard once to get blades spinning...reel just fast enough to keep blades spinning. Be ready when you give it that rip...triggers lots of strikes. You might need more weight if you want to retrieve them faster.

Anyone ever use dipsy divers musky fishing? Or would a musky have enough power to break one.

I made a couple of these last years and added near 4 oz of weight for cruising deeper water and rocket long casts. They are about 10.5 inches long and will get me 20 feet deep easy.

You can definitely use dipsy's for muskies. They won't break them. If a screaming 20#+ king doesn't tear them up, a musky won't. Depending on the bait though (if you're pulling 10s), you have to tighten up the tension screw pretty good so it doesn't trip on it's own.
