| Hey all, I live in Indiana and the lakes just opened up and I am newish to muskie fishing. I Have never had any real success in the spring, so what should I do? I mainly fish shallow with smaller twitch baits and small bucktails.

| I would suggest to continue with small twitch baits and glide baits (like hell puppy/hell hounds and 6" phantom soft tails). Me and my buddy have also been messing with rattlebaits with some success. I usually don't use bucktails until a little later but that is just me. Good luck! |

Location: Northern Indiana | Fish activity and location usually depends on the current weather patterns and water temperture. Shallow water can be great if the water is warming, but if your dealing with coldfronts then breakline and open water fishing can be more consistant when the weather isn't cooperating. Always watch your graph looking for forage (mainly shad)and the muskies will show up when they want to feed. If you are just getting started I suggest hiring a guide. There are a bunch of good guides in the area....Mike Hulbert, Chae Dolsen, etc.

| You might want to drag some live bait with your artificial presentations. With the right weather----any of the above mentioned techniques will work-----but dragging alittle MEAT will only enhance your odds of getting a wary, lethargic fish to commit. Pulling stickbaits along the breaklines used to produce quite a few cold water fish. Utilize a pull/stop retrieve----to trigger slow moving fish----Yozuri crystal minnows are a good choice. Good luck----Jobu |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | Slow down a bit, that's the number one thing I see guys do in the spring. If the water is cold the fish are cold and slower. Guy's will generally get all fired up for the trip and cast/retrieve 900 mph. This is especially true if you come out of a warmer water area and go Nort to colder waters. LET the fish dictate the speed, once you start getting follows you know you are dialing in. |

| With the ice just coming off as mentioned fish slower and downsize. Also try a little deeper. |
