Been lurking the forums for a while and it seems that the TI rod line is one of the fan favorites here. It seems like a great rod, at least the specs do, for the price. Without ever seeing or holding a rod, it's obviously a gamble to take that jump and place an order. I'm ready to take the jump, but need some insight from you owners out there. I'm planning on a standard 8' with a CalcuttaB for throwing top raiders, phantom softtails, medium plastics, and an occasional double 10. I have no clue if I should get the MH or XH "Mag" and don't want to order the wrong one and regret it. I emailed James and he steered me to these forums for some possible insight from you owners of his rods. I like a rod that loads up somewhat, but that won't crack me in the back of the head ; ) On the other side of the coin, I don't want a super stiff rod that's like a 2x4. Please chime in TI friends and let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I should also mention that James said that the XH was the most popular by far. I'm just concerned that it may be too stiff for my liking.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | I have the XH and it handles a wide range of bait types and weights. If you go with a MH I have a feeling it may be a little on the soft side for big blades, especially on the 8. On the flip side I haven't noticed that the XH is too stiff for the other bait types you mention.

Posts: 265 Location: Manitowish Waters WI | I have TI rods in all lengths and weights, the 9" xh is by far the most versatile. My mh is to flimsy to rip 10s into figure eights at the boat. The mh does great with smaller gliders and 8s, I use it all the time for its intended purpose.

Posts: 143 Location: La Crosse, WI | Stingray, I just ordered an 8' XH rod from TI and received it in the mail this weekend. I had the same concerns that you have about buying one without being able to hold it in your hand first. But after holding the rod, I don't have any concerns. The rod is very light weight but also has some backbone to it. I think you will be very pleased

Posts: 994 Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I run the MH & XH split grip, telescopic TI rods. It's not the fish that cause you concern it's the baits. If you want to be able to almost any bait on and cast go with the XH. If you like to be able to throw smaller bucks and creanks etc... the MH is a sweet rod. I landed fish up to just under 50" with the MH one last year w/o any concerns at all. Great rods at any price, but what James sells them for is a great deal! P.S. I started with the MH, added the XH's and this year a XXH!

Posts: 48 Location: PA | I bought the 9' MH split grip last month and just got a chance to use it today. I was casting stuff that ranged from 1.5 - 5.5 oz. Even tried my Rapala Size 12 Xraps which are 3/4oz. Worked good with them but I would still prefer a lighter rod. The MH seemed to handle everything I tried on it but with baits that were around 5oz, it got to "tippy" when casting. IMO I would rather the tip section be a little stiffer. I'm sure it is on the XH model. I kind of wish I would have got the XH now. I do plan on getting the XH later this year. Will use the MH with baits up to 4oz and use the XH for stuff over that. So if you are only going to get one rod to use I would agree with others and get the XH. The TI rods are hard to beat for the price. I actually like it better than the $200 St. Croix that I was using the past few years.
