What about the 2000, 1990 Tuffy Osprey in the classified on this site?? It is a little underpowered but as long as you aren't carrying real heavy loads. You could also look for a Champion Fish Hunter.

Steve, I'm not saying it is a dog and "underpowered" but it also doesnt have the max HP that hull is rated for. I would buy that rig if I could afford it right now. Suzuki's are great motors, 40+ is a decent speed and the price is really good if the rig is in as great shape as it looks in the pictures.

Chad, I would go to dealers and check out the boat layouts. See what you like for what kind of fishing you do or if you'll have kids in the boat. Look at deck space, rod and overall storage, and anything else that is important to you. Then, when you narrow it down start watching the classifieds and craigs list. You can find a good used boat in that price range no problem. Once the weather starts to get nicer guys will start listing their boats more. When you see what your looking for jump on it. That worked for me, I got an Alumacraft navi 175 with johnson 115 4 stroke for $13000. They are out there, be patient.

$10-15K buys a lot of boat if you are patient.

being a buyer is a great place to be and once the decision is made you are immediately in and equal and opposite position. so, buy carefully, patiently and try to get something everyone else is trying to find. that boat is a Ranger 681, 690, 692 or Champion FishHunter in my opinion. i was in the same place a couple years ago and am extremely happy to be an owner of a nice 690 ... i got mine for less than your range btw. they are out there ... but, as mentioned above ... they go really fast so you gotta act quickly.

another great boat to be an "owner" of is the tuffy esox-magnum. you mention "big-water" or i would have added that to my list. that said, you would be surprised how "big" that boat will fish. you can find good ones here and there and if you ever wanted to move from it to something else, there will be a line of buyers there for you.

good luck ...

I bought my 690 last year. It's old, but it does the trick. Rebuilt the motor, new HDS7, i-pilot, hand made rear casting deck = $14000
Still needs some work, especially the trailer and I need a kicker

I know a 2000 Ranger 619 with a 200 Evi, loaded and in great condition that could be had for $18k.

dammit, where the heck were you a month or two ago when I needed this info, if the motor checks out that is a steal

Your price range is exactly where I was in 2010 when I purchased my first real Musky boat.

And after spending lots of time reading what other Musky guys had to say and fishing out of a fair number of different boats--I was set on waiting it out for a nice Ranger 690 from 1996-1999--

Talked to at least 5 guys who had them for sale--could not get one down to 15K and these boats all had 600+ hour on old late 90s motors--one had 900 hours---no one I talked to would go below 18K.

Then I ran into almost by accident a 2004 Tuffy Osprey 1760 with Merc optimax 150 and 9.9 four stroke kicker with electronics, like new condition, clean, shiny boat for 15K. Big motor only had 100 hours on it.

A much better deal than the Ranger's I was looking at. I did not want to buy an 18K boat that was 15+ years old and have to spend another 13-14 K to repower in a season or two.

Check out the used Tuffy's--you can find a great one in your price range for sure.
They are made for big water and for Musky fishing.

Storm Strike, simple supply and demand... demand for 690s in good / great condition is very high still to this day. supply is low...they fish great, handle big and small water awesome and for what new 619/620s are going for 18k for a 690 is still not a bad deal....I have a standing offer for 21k for mine no TM or electronics but I do have a new motor on mine...
there are some steals out there, I know of one guy who got a pretty nice 692 for under 9k but the old lady he bought it from didn't know the true value... a good used 690/692 with a motor that checks out is still a good deal at 15-18k... just because a motor has 500 - 900 hours on it doesn't mean it can't easily go another 500-900 hrs without a hiccup.

Don't be afraid to use google and search out of state. I bought my 97 690 from a dealer in Texas for real cheap with 07 trailer. Bare bones great condition. It wasn't a highly sought after boat down there. Up here Il Wi MN it is and you can't find one not loaded with all the goodies for under 14k no matter what year or condition as other have said. Shipping was super cheap cheaper then it was for me to drive halfway there one way. If John doe was selling it I would be more hesitant though. Dealers a little different . Now I have a great boat and did my upgrades over time wen I got the money. If I wanted to I could probably sell that boat up here and made 5K the way it was. Good luck the internet is a great thing

I would take a serious look into Tuffy. If you do not want a tiller, look at the osprey/esox deep-v models. I have owned a 1700 and now a 1760 and both were AMAZING boats. The deck space is un-matched and the price is significantly less than Ranger. In the end its really about what you want and best suits you, but in my opinion your really paying for the name with Ranger.

Look at Tuffy you get sooo much more boat for the dollar and they last. I am an old guy who grew up in Cass lake, on Big Winnie, and owns a Tuffy boat.
